I have spent much of my career as a doctor working with disadvantaged patient groups the mentally ill, in paediatric palliative care, geriatrics, in outreach programs, in drug clinics and with the homeless. Many of these people are desperately in need.
Only a few weeks ago, a patient spat and then threw a chair at me because I had the audacity to suggest that if he continued to inject himself with heroin every day, despite being in treatment for more than two years, he should be discharged from my care and that this might affect his benefits.
They cant stop my money, he shouted. Ill just go thieving.
But I am sick and tired of seeing fit and healthy people who choose not to work, who refuse to take menial jobs because of a false sense of entitlement, while there are poor, needy and desperate individuals working hard but having to rely on meager handouts and struggling to pay basic bills
Whatdoes the state of one’s bank account have to do with being disabled and using handicapped spaces? Also, my husband was blind. I always used our tag to park in the handicapped space. Sometimes he would sit in the car if it was cold or raining and I didn’t feel comfortable leaving him in a spot that wasn’t near the front. Think before you start blasting folks.
Can't do that, it would be discrimination against the motivationally challenged.
Let private charity handle it all, as they are allowed to so discriminate while the government is not.
The war on poverty started with propaganda pieces on how poor folks were in Appalachia. They were true stories, but were a distraction. Appalachia is still dirt poor, the war on poverty was never meant to help there or anywhere.
Yet somehow, in the big-picture, its still the systems fault. Neo-cons, Bush, the 1%, the Koch Brothers - whatever the slogan of the day is, they are to blame

I work with stupid leftist like that. As great as they are in many other ways, they are purposefully blind. Nurses, as an aggregate, are the most politically ignorant and blind humans that walk. But social workers take the cake.
So funny you said that, just last night my wife and I stopped by a local gas station for a cup of coffee and a big lifted 4x4 with huge mudders pulled into the handicapped space. Sure enough he had handicapped plates on it. We just shook our heads, if he can even climb into that thing he isn't as handicapped as most old people I know.
what? disabled does not mean poor... my 89-year old mother and 90-year old father have those disabled parking placards, and they have a decent vehicle and dress well... my mom even wears real gold jewelry... she has a problem with her foot, and my dad recently suffered an aortic aneurysm... but they are not poor...
my 17-year old son recently dropped me and my mother off at Target... about an hour later he came to pick us up... he parked in the disabled spot, not because he needed it, but so his grandmother would not have to walk so far... funny thing is, he felt peculiar... he saw someone looking at him, so he faked a limp as he walked into the store... he saw us at the register... i saw a funny look on his face, and asked him what was up... he told me the story and we both started laughing...
I drove two wheel-chair bound people to Walmart the other day. After the first was done, I waited in the car with him for an hour while his mother finished shopping with her aide.
The man’s car was a very nice, low mileage minivan, in much better shape than mine. Low mileage because they don’t get out much. Nice because of an insurance settlement.
For an hour I watched the other people using the handicapped spaces. No other wheelchair users. No braces or walkers. But all elderly. Maybe heart conditions. Maybe diabetic feet. Maybe bad knees and hips. Maybe COPD. And no cars that stood out as, that’s a ride. No young people who looked like they were abusing the system.
We see people like hosepipe all the time.
My wife’s hip joints deteriorated (18Q chromosome deletion syndrome) and she had to have both hips replaced when she was thirty eight.
Every time she would get out of the house and go shopping, a dozen or so hosepipes would be giving her the steely glare if they had an electric cart to use instead of her wheelchair.
Frequently one of the hosepipes would stop to berate her for being too lazy to walk.
I have a nice car, dress well and have a disabled plate. Should I start dressing in sackcloth? Go get a beater car?
Would that make you happy? I’ll bet not.
Last Saturday, my 30 year old son, choking back tears, thanked me for the tough love that I guided him with when he was younger. He gets it.
I learned a long time ago that the easy way is usually not the best way. There are way too many stupid, gutless parents out there. The Bible is correct: we are born hopelessly selfish brats and we have to be taught to understand that and shown a better way. That is what a REAL parent does. Most of these people, including the socialist doctor, have never been taught that.
Well, Dr. Socialist, behold what thou hath wrought.
Really, dude?
We have a local supermarket that has signs designating special parking for “Little old men and little old ladies”, printed verbatim. Plus, special parking for expectant mothers and mothers with young children, as well as “handicapped” parking. None of these have I ever seen abused or mis-used. Not all infirmities are visible, you know. Not all infirm or handicapped are of a particular socioeconomic group.
I do not have an issue with permit parking and I don’t assume anyone using it may be scamming the system.
Perfectly said.
I know a lot of liberals due to the state I live in, and many of them SEE the issues, causes and everything else pretty clearly, and you think “Hey! They DO understand!”
And then reality hits, and it boils down to “We aren’t doing it right”.
How many apologists for communist regimes have said THAT over the years...that it is a “good concept, they just aren’t doing it right”?
Some lazy moron was getting his fat ass pushed around on a wheelchair by airport personnel and as soon as he reached our destination he got up and walked carrying his own suitcases.
I got video to document this miraculous healing but it didn't come out too good.
NO how about YOU think... CLEARLY nobody is talking about the people with REAL disabilities- only the fakers
You’ve been here long enough to know that and not start a pi$$ing match over it
Look at his outlook on life. Entirely from his perspective, with intolerance for those with different perspectives.
He thinks he is somehow noble for helping others, but the helping is not about them. Just reinforcing his beliefs about himself. Note how the “more disadvantaged” are more deserving in his eyes? Not those that just needed medical help. That wasn’t good enough. He had to feel superior to them.
Did he demand that the junkie quit when they first met? No, he waited two years. Then suddenly he decided that the junkie should quit, and he threatened the junkie to coerce him into quitting.
The truth is that if you probed this doctor you would quickly discover he had tremendous feeling of inadequacy, which he masked with a superiority complex. This is very common among socialists.
A good cue is that if you introduce such people by their first name, they will correct you and say they are “Doctor” so-and-so, “M.D.”, despite it being redundant.
I met one such, who pointed out to me three times that he had a medical degree from Harvard. This annoyed me enough so that in a low tone I assured him that I would not hold it against him. Which probably tripled his systolic blood pressure for a time.
I have seen on several occasions people in the check out line in the wine and spirits department of a large grocery use an EBT card to buy a 50 cent bottle of soda and then pay cash for a bottle of whiskey.
Some people ARE disabled(indeed)...... BUT
YOU RAPE the spirit of the post...
One wonders if, one of you(above), are not disingenuous.. or are a liberal in disguise.. i.e. Rino..
IF Not... the post stands... not all disabled are disabled..
AND some disabled are very able..
I have trouble walking to the grocery store next door where I live, and I’m not disabled..
oh, please, libs do things for others........they tax and tax to give our money to those who chose not to work so that they can live like the rest of us without lifting one finger. /s
Did I really need the sarcasm tag?
My guess is that you also have a problem just finding the front door to go out to walk to the store next door.
My guess is that you also have a problem just finding the front door to go out to walk to the store next door.
You’re projecting... AND supporting “disabled” Grasshoppers..
I support “the ANTS”.. and despise grasshoppers..
