Google Maps Street View shows the tracks with a wide grassy area between the ROW and the parallel street (C Street SW) and apparently no fence. I wonder if earbuds or some other sort of electronic distraction (besides trying to take a picture) were involved. The visibility in the area is very good in either direction.

BTW - this question was for anyone...and not targeted at Doug (as he had something nice to say)

I was out in the Mojave Desert at the Kelso train station. I was standing on the platform reading something and before I new it a freight train was right on top me. I never heard it coming.

What is it with all these pictures all the time? There are three pictures of me that exist that I can think of, and one of them is on my driver’s license.

The very first successful reattachment of a limb was an arm to a 12 year old boy who hopped a freight. The arm got lopped off at a tunnel abutment. I was 11 years old when I read that in in the November 1962 Popular Science issue and it ended all my thoughts of ever hopping a freight. Glad you survived.
The Boy Who Lost His Arm -- and Got It Back, page 71. It's amazing the odd things the mind dredges up when you're on FR.

Yeppers. Right there! Just look across the street at the tracks and you’ll see no fence. Just a stretch of grass about forty or so feet from street to the first set of tracks.

Curious.
Were you ever in the Air Force?
Situational awareness is key to preventing most mishaps.
(I have to write that in reports at least weekly)
