I was clicking through some links on Wikipedia last night, and stumbled across the "List of One-hit Wonders" in the United States." Amazingly, they have separate, detailed individual lists for each decade ( I've posted the links below..)I was astonished at how many there were, how many I'd liked, and many I'd pretty much forgotten; and I spent several hours on YouTube, reminiscing, and then downloading some of the tunes. So, enjoy.. if you have a favorite, opine below...
867-5309 (Jenny) by Tommy Tutone
According to the posted list, in 1977, some guy named Ted Nugent had a hit. I wonder whatever happened to him?
I find it very hard to listen to all the Ads before you can listen to any music. I used to just put the tunes on auto play but now you have to hear an ad just to get to your song. Any solutions to that or just stop listening?
That is an AWESOME song-—drumming really original-—and I got it on my iTunes lists.
Hah! We both said Jenny!
Concrete and Clay-—don’t know the band.

I think every rock and roller started by learning 3 songs: Gloria, Louie,
Louie, and House of the Rising Sun.

I don’t need too much time thinking about this one. “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye, from the 2010 list, is my favorite. I’m not sure enough time has passed to make Gotye a one-hit wonder, though.
I’m sure that once I go through the lists, I’ll find other OHWs that I like a lot.
And thank you for posting this. I have given up TV in favor of watching youtube videos. It’s always nice to have new ones to watch!
Harper Valley PTA (Jeannie C. Riley), 99 Luftballoon (Nena), Don't Leave Me This Way (Thelma Houston)... Tarzan Boy (Baltimora)... Tender Love (Force MD)... Just a Friend (Biz Mark E.)... i cannot do it!!!
how about listing 2-it wonders... that might be easier :)
Glad you posted this because it reminded me of songs I should get.
I did, but then I got distracted.

For me it’s very easy: A-ha’s “Take On Me”. The video was absolutely amazing. Youtube it if you’ve never seen it.
Beyond that song, and a couple of others that were at least listenable, their songs really, REALLY sucked.
Actually, there are three good songs on that album: “Wild One” “Dance With Me” (I think that’s the title), and “That Thing You Do,” most co-written by Tom Hanks.
Many of my favorite classic rock acts could be considered “one hit wonders” even though many more of their songs are heard on the radio, which speaks volumes for the pop charts.
