This thread contains talk about Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit - read at your risk if you don't want any spoiler.
Droning voice with no inflections. Much like Robert Mitchum who was also over-rated, IMO.
Yup, it was definitely Costner! I’m not the best with actor names (or I’m indifferent to it, at least), but I double checked. It was indeed great. Probably the only show I’ve bothered to watch in years.
Oh, I liked Mitchum. He was excellent at projecting menace behind a laconic façade. I think my favorite film of his was the original “Cape Fear.”
Pushing a film's release from Christmas to January is Hollywood's way of telling us that it's a stinker and they know it. January is where movies go to die a quick death.
As did my wife and I - guess I'm just not as discerning of a consumer as the rest of our FReeper brethren.
Agree completely that Without Remorse was the best or tied-for-the-best Clancy. So strange though. Clancy suggests in Red October that Christopher Reed is the only choice for Ryan, yet Hollywood continues 1) to come up with utter losers in the role (including Harrison Ford!) and then 2) to cartoonize them (remember Alec Baldwin?). And William Dafoe as John Clark? Please.
That shows you that Hollywood ran out of ideas and inspiration generations ago. Now they’ve resorted to using a character and storyline from an old TV show. When I read the FR headline, I thought they were talking about a new videogame.
By the way, to all you gamers out there, Call Of Duty Ghosts is amazing! It’s worth the 60 bucks. It has levels and levels on top of levels. Just don’t get lost in it.
I should have made my post more clear. I was thinking about that TV show “24”. The character was Jack Bauer. But he was still based on the Tom Clancy hero Jack Ryan. In my opinion, “Executive Orders” was Clancy’s best novel. His opus and his greatest literary achievement. According to the conspiracy theorists, “they” took him out because he knew too much.
That's because they're homophobic ... unlike Moslems, you know.
Exactly.
He can’t act and he has no charisma.
Did they ever announce what killed Tom Clancy?
I’m wondering if it was watching a pre-screening of this movie ...
I miss Vic Morrow. (And I was only 6 when he was killed). He was a truly talented actor AND director. He was also a manly man, not some pretty boy of limited range.
Have you ever watched “Combat!”? It is an excellent show.
Holy crap, that is a long list!
LOL.
I do not understand why so many of my fellow women like him. He has zero talent,no screen presence and is not that good-looking.

Red Storm Rising was my favorite Clancy novel: Oh for the days when America had great purpose and was on the right side
I usually feel the same way, but ventured out to see the 2nd Hunger Games movie last night (yeah, I’m slow like that) and it was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even in a run-down theater with no heat! Can’t wait for the third!
I don’t recall watching an episode of “Combat” (if only because it may not have been rerun in my area). As you know, we’re about the same age. I remember Morrow if only because if his ill-fated decision to star in one of the “Twilight Zone” movie episodes, where he was killed (which I saw in the theater after it came out). It’s funny, his daughter inherited his talent and his looks, Jennifer Jason Leigh.
It is true so many films and tv shows (pre ‘90s) actually featured bonafide men in them, not just identical-looking gym rats with the range and depth of a Cheesy Poof. I could literally feel the rage boiling (towards director Steven Soderbergh) sitting through the horrid “Magic Mike.” They manage to put Matthew McConnaughey in a supporting role, who can be interesting and entertaining, but put two “I can’t act-ors” in the male and female leads, both of whom were so forgettable and boring, and I couldn’t tell some of the male actors apart from scene to scene. Worst of all, I couldn’t care. To think they’re mulling a sequel is appalling. If I see the name “Tatum” on something, and it ain’t “O’Neil”, I will switch the channel ASAFP.
Go see Saving Mr. Banks instead. It is so good and I did not want to see it. However, the majority of the movies including Jack Ryan were sold out so we were left with this or Saraphena (or something like that, but it seemed to bash the Catholic Church so we passed). Instead we went to see Saving Mr. Banks even though it has that awful Tom Hanks. The movie is very good. Seriously I did not want to see it but was surprised at who enjoyable it was. Yep, Lone Survivor was sold out too .Unfortunately.
