Footage showing surrendering troops to US Army. southern Bohemia, Czechoslovakia 1945. Isn't strange that some Germans still carry weapons when surrendering plus a few shots from Prague.

Bach's Air on a G string in the background makes this very moving.

Methinks the Krauts priority was to make sure they surrendered to the Americans, not the Soviets.

Methinks the Krauts priority was to make sure they surrendered to the Americans, not the Soviets. Especially, if they had a wife or girlfriend with them.

I’ve read that the Americans sometimes repatriated these guys to the Soviets, if the Russians were close by. I have a book by a Gebirgsjaeger (mountain troops) sniper who was captured by Americans who were going to hand the group over. He escaped, ditched his uniform and just went home.

A lot more truth to that than many think.
A few years back when ‘they’ started saying the reason we ‘dropped the bigun’ on Japan was purely Racist, the reasoning being we never would have done that to Germany because they were White.
The idea was brought up that the ‘real’ reason we dropped it was because the Soviets were going to do to Japan and the Pacific like they did too Europe - either dominate it or split it up.
Patton was one of the few ‘name’ players who recognized what Russia was and MacArthur had China pegged correctly also.
