The very fact cattle folks breed new cattle from existing cattle makes all beef by definition, sustainable.
The very fact they give their herds water, feed and grasslands to graze (well some do), make it sustainable.
Government is so assholey today and up in your biz there would be very little joy in being a farmer. And sad fact is govt’s done this on purpose to get rid of family farms as fast as possible and turn it all over to massive corporate endeavors. They want people off the land and moved into CONTROLLABLE confined spaces. They know cramming people into tighter spaces makes for more violence, which gives them the ‘mandate’ to control more and more areas of your life. Then they will restrict your ability to leave their controlled spaces and make the stress even more severe.

Wouldn't unsustainable beef have disappeared already?
Don't use logic on these people unless you bring a mop, cause it's gonna cause their heads to explode.

sustainable beef = taste awful
Hate to rain on your parade, but...
" Its apparent from the experts quoted in the article that defining sustainability is a difficult task. To me, sustainable beef is that which is produced efficiently, packs the most nutrient punch and creates the least environmental impact. I think its great that the U.S. beef industry offers so many choices to appeal to a wide range of consumer demands and needs. However, I hope consumers know that they shouldnt fear conventionally raised, traditional beef. After all, its a product that is raised with the most efficiency, therefore using less land, water and natural resources, while still providing many of the essential nutrients we need to thrive. With its tremendous efficiency, the U.S. model of beef production should be used as the worlds model for providing food with sustainability."

Sustainable beef just means produced efficiently. This will most likely affect McD's locations in third-world countries.

“sustainable beef in 2016,” eh?
I’m a bit dubious about the “sustainable” part, but if its gonna be “beef” in 2016, I will try a big Mac in 2016 to see if I can eat it without barfing it up right away.

Wouldn't unsustainable beef have disappeared already?Exactly. "Sustainable" is the most overused, misused word in the English language today. Whoever came up with it should be drawn and quartered.
It makes about as much sense as 'organic'.

I wonder what percentage of regular McDonalds customers are environmental leftists vs. what percentage of customers will be turned off by this announcement and will go to the competition?

Animal welfare (don't be mean to them before you kill them)Panera Bread has become the ultimate palace to elitist excess. Their food is a bit better than other quick meals and snacks, but prices are insane. Anyway, one of their recent sales pitches was that the chicken they serve is free range, organic, everything's healthy and happy.
It doesn't increase my eating pleasure knowing that their chicken was enjoying a happy, healthy life frolicking with its friends on the open range before I got hungry. <^..^>

re-flavored artificially and dyed to resemble to type of meat it once was."
