Technically, no. The military designation is 7.62X51 That comes out to about .308 caliber, but that's not what they call it.

M240 Bravo, I’m a crew chief by trade, but a security forces dude let me handle one once. Weighs a bit more than an SAW.

A bit more is an understatement- the M249 SAW (556) is about 17lbs, the M240B (762)is at 23+lbs.
A nice hand grenade/RPG target group, though, those troopers. Spread OUT, fellas!
