A ‘hole’ that is filled with ice, snow, and what not is not a ‘hole.’
Where does it say the hole is filled with anything?
If you mean this: “Satellite data was used to fill the gap, because despite being covered beneath several kilometers of ice, the valley is so vast that it can be seen from space.”, they are referring to the ice ON TOP of it.
