Will China land humans on the Moon before America returns?

It would seem so based on a new report in the People’s Daily- the official paper of the Communist Party of China – as well as the express science goals following on the heels of the enormous breakthrough for Chinese technology demonstrated by the history making Chang’e-3 Mission.

The People’s Daily reports that “Chinese aerospace researchers are working on setting up a lunar base,” based on a recent speech by Zhang Yuhua, deputy general director and deputy general designer of the Chang’e-3 probe system.

I hate to say this, but many conservatives are also all for sending American industry to China.

There is no party preference.

I say, we need trade tariffs, and we need to bring back American jobs.

Then when we’re no longer exporting all our money to China, we can start building our own moon base.

Just saying.

We really, really need to start to play on America’s side.

Plus, let somebody else expend trillions while we hack their learned tech for nothing.

Well, try this old article:
http://voices.yahoo.com/possible-resources-moon-3067267.html?cat=58
I know there are private companies in America doing work to get there for 1 reason, profit.
Do you really think that money would be a problem for Chinese government? Do you think that China wouldn’t fight like the devil to keep every other nation off the moon?

You are preaching to the choir on that one. I’ve been here for long enough that I was part of the free trade flame wars. I said two things during that time...

- China was going to eat our lunch and eclipse us as a world power.
- Offshoring would lead to a President Hillary Clinton. The loss of jobs, the fear among the public would lead them to vote for the communists.

I was told that I was much too excitable, and sending manufacturing to China was no different than what happened with Japan in the 1970s.
I was also told that I was crazy, go back to the DU, Hillary would never win. No, I guess not, we got something even worse.

I never get tired of saying “I told you so.” Even though we’re all paying the price now.

Forget mining. Those who fail to comprehend the strategic implications of China taking over the moon are not very smart. Having said that we have some time yet before that occurs. They haven’t even landed a man on the moon yet. But they will.

makes me go...hmmmmmm
Like that movie Apollo 18 and the reason why Americans never went back.
Truth, fiction, conspiracy?

I really wish the Chinese the best of luck getting a manned vehicle to the moon and back.
just that thought that we did it over 4 decades earlier with caveman technology compared with what is current.A childs cheapest digital watch has more computing power than some of the NASA equipment from back then.

... article ...

Online scifi bs. I reiterate there isn't anything of value on the moon that is anywhere near the cost of getting it. Since you appear to be sincere if completely naive about it, think of this.

  1. The Apollo program brought back 838.2 lb of rocks form the moon. That was as much as they could. If they had any more capacity, they would have returned more. The rocks have no intrinsice value, excpet for the fact that they came from the moon you could pick up any equal weight of rocks and dirt from a vacant lot and get the same worth
  2. In 2009 NASA itself estimated that the total cost of the Apollo program was $170,000,000,000 in 2005 dollars
  3. The rate of inflation from 2005 to 2013 was 19.3%
  4. Now calculate first inflat to current dollars multiply $170 bil by 1.193 = $202.82 Billion
  5. Now divide $202.82 billion by 838.2 = $241,958,959.68 per pound or $15,122,434.98 per ounce
There isn't any commodity that has in intrinsoc value even close to that high.

"Lunar resources" is a myth promulgated by those who don't have a clue about the economics of the situation.

So what? Just say, “Been there, done that already! You are simply 45 years behind the times! Try to catch up with the USA!” ;-

At a minimum the Vikings, the Irish, the Welsh, the Spanish and the Portuguese all reached North America before the English, and yet you posted that comment in English. China isn't planning a vanity photo op, but a permanent base.

You ought to read up on how from the 17th-19th centuries the Chinese reflexively dismissed everything that wasn't Chinese as inherently inferior because they could not conceive that something that wasn't Chinese wasn't inherently inferior, The read up on how that worked for them.

So you think that raising taxes increases wealth and jobs? That we can tax ourselves into prosperity?

I say yes.

America has lost sight of American greatness.

America needs to focus once again on America.

Bring back jobs, and start to grow our own economy.

taxes/tariffs

increasing taxes has never worked to increase prosperity or jobs - ever. But for some strange reason it's a very popular idea with the left.

Bring back jobs, and start to grow our own economy.

You "bring back jobs" by being better (ie more efficient) than the competition, not be causing the competition to be less ifficient by taxes distorting the maketplace. BTW your idea is probably the single most central philosophy of the liberal democrats wealth redistribution by taxation and the primary point of difference between conservatives and liberals.

America is now $17,000,000,000,000.00 in debt, and that number is rapidly climbing.

Bring back American jobs.

Bring back American jobs.

While no one can disagree with that sentiment, you want to explain how increasing taxes is going to do that?

America needs import tariffs.

One level, all imported products and services. Everything. Gas. Food. And production. If it is imported into America, pay a tariff.

All imports, need to pay one single import tariff. This will balance out our trade, and it will start to pay down our debt.

What that tariff should be, is a significant discussion. But America cannot continue to send jobs to other countries.

We need to bring back American jobs.

We need to stop selling out America. Protect American jobs, and bring back American employment.

Now.
