Will China land humans on the Moon before America returns?
It would seem so based on a new report in the People’s Daily- the official paper of the Communist Party of China – as well as the express science goals following on the heels of the enormous breakthrough for Chinese technology demonstrated by the history making Chang’e-3 Mission.
The People’s Daily reports that “Chinese aerospace researchers are working on setting up a lunar base,” based on a recent speech by Zhang Yuhua, deputy general director and deputy general designer of the Chang’e-3 probe system.

They’ve got the benefit of our experience so I doubt it would take them long.
They might as well since we’ll be paying for it.

Imagine the final prices when the Chinese astronauts put up artifacts from Tranquility Base on Ebay!
The American left will cheer this as much as the Chinese. To the American left, this is more evidence that communism works.
If I were president I would push congress to free up private industry in space with tax free status for all industries working directly on things that would take them to space.
I would suggest that interested industries make a real competition out of it by putting up prize money for various things like first to circumnavigate mars either on the surface or flying within its atmosphere.

So what? Just say, “Been there, done that already! You are simply 45 years behind the times! Try to catch up with the USA!” ;-)
There is prize money related to building a space elevator.
Well, since the US has turned its back on the future in favor of an endlessly expanding welfare state, best wishes to the Chinese. A moon base will open up great opportunities to the countries who colonize the Moon and they will write the history books.
Yeah there are various prizes for space related things but government getting out of the way would drive the money and competition to new heights.

Do you all realize how much we would be hosed if they start going up there? Seriously, they will start to mine the resources and dare anyone to tell them not to.
Who cares? Nothing there but rocks and dirt - nothing of value at all.
What resources? Mine how? At what cost? People who really think this are so clueless.
I bet those Chinese astronauts are “excited” to go.
