Modern science has associated lots of cancers with behaviors (eating certain types of foods, smoking, not exercising, etc etc) that can just as easily blame the cancer patient for their own cancer.
The body of the alcoholic (like it or not) processes alcohol differently than the body of the non alcoholic. It is an allergy of the body and an obsession of the mind.
Because you want to be cutesy and try and pretend you know something about it only makes you look small and pathetic. The alcoholic din’t want to be alcoholic any more than the cancer patient wanted to be a cancer patient.
Alcoholism as a ‘disease’ came out of the same department that has told us that pederasty is perfectly normal, and that recovered memory syndrome is a fact.

Pederasty is not normal. Anorexia is not normal. Homo is not normal. Illness is not normal but it exists. Whether mental or physical sickness.

You have to look behind the curtain to see who benefits from reclassifying alcoholism as a disease. (You can do it for yourself, but as a hint, check who benefited from the long discredited recovered memory syndrome) Why wasn’t it a ‘disease’ 50 years ago (or whatever)? I think we can probably agree that both alcoholism and anorexia nervosa are illnesses, mental illnesses, but once you classify them as diseases you are are corrupting the language, which itself is a lively modern disease of another kind, if you will. Because if alcoholism, a behavioral problem, with certain physical causes like all behavioral problems, if alcoholism is a disease, then why not biting one’s nails being a disease? To say that alcoholism is a disease without questioning the very recent change of its classification, is repeating mindlessly received wisdom, which is no wisdom at all.
Oh, and pederasty, which has been declared normal under a different name, of course, is not the same as pedophilia.

I'm generally speaking not a country music fan, but what passes for today's country music really doesn't compare to the country music of 20 or even 10 years ago.
IMO, Blake Shelton is probably the best example of "pop country" out there. That and the way country songs are "mixed" these days .... compressed bass, too much reverb, flattening all the sound ... it just hurts my ears.

You describe it well, although I can’t say it hurts my ears. I do not know anything about music theory or composition, so I just call what you described “processed” — that is, if I comprehend what you said. I can’t stand any kind of music that is like that.
Prime example for me is Enya. The husband loves her sound, but it drives me up the wall. She has a beautiful voice, so why can’t she just sing with it without blending all those tracks? (I don’t even know if I used the term “tracks” right. Oh, well....)
Now, I enjoy blue grass, and my husband does not. So I don’t play blue grass while he’s around, and he does not subject me to Enya.
Not a huge country music fan, but I must say that I like almost every George Strait (sp?) song I have heard. “Amarillo by Morning” comes to mind.

It is, in a way, a form of self-mutilation....again a mental illness that becomes a disease when it can kill you. Such as “cutting” and depression can lead to suicide.
