Princess Madeleine and her husband Christopher O'Neil have decided that their child will be born in the US, the Swedish Royal Court has announced.
Madeleine reveals royal baby's gender: report (30 Oct 13) Pregnant Princess to attend Nobel alone (19 Oct 13) Royal baby on the way for Swedish princess (03 Sep 13)
"After careful consideration and in consultation with the King and Queen, Princess Madeleine and Mr. Christopher O'Neill have decided that their child will be born in New York," Svante Lindqvist at the Royal Court wrote in a statement.
The baby, set to become fifth in line to the Swedish throne, is expected to arrive at the end of February 2014.
Writer and royal expert Roger Lundgren has explained Madeleine's decision to give birth in New York as a purely practical decision.
"She has had a tough pregnancy, she missed the Nobel banquette for example, and it is simply more convenient to give birth there than in Sweden," he said.
"But many here at home will probably be disappointed, they want their princess back home in Sweden, as part of the royal family. The fact that Madeleine will give birth abroad cements a distance to her."
Lundgren explained that the decision carries no constitutional consequences.
"It has no constitutional significance where she gives birth, as the King and Queen have given their approval."
"Today we live in a global world, we live around the world and experience new things. This will be an international child which will get the best of different worlds," Lundgren told the TT news agency.
I remember seeing pictures of their wedding not too long ago. She's very pretty and married a Wall Street stock broker or banker (almost wrote ster lol).
I have no doubt Swedes would insult U.S. people. I cna see which side you are on.
No way.
Which way?
I’m not insulting “U.S. people,” just insulting you.
Yes, you are. You are saying Sweden is better than the U.S. and Swedish critiques of the U.S. are valid. If you are Swedish, I have no problem with that. If you are U.S., kinda pathetic.
Actually, the INA covers diplomats and royalty. They can’t drop an anchor baby. They are the exception to the jus soli laws.
We’re all anchor babies now.
Way.
Well at least they won’t be signing up for welfare and trying to bring the rest of their impoverished family with them. :-)
Why not?
Look, I pick the U.S. over Sweden. You have your right to believe that the U.S. is filled with worthless scumbags. I have the right to disagree.
We’ll give the baby back to Sweden in exchange for the Swedish Bikini Team...
On the left or on the right?
“Why not?”
I’m pretty sure they are financially stable. :-)
The new child will be forced to file US tax returns the rest of her life - even if sh leaves and never returns.
