Word For The Day, Monday, 1/13/14
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
diminution; noun
1. the act, fact, or process of diminishing; lessening; reduction. 2. Music. the repetition or imitation of a subject or theme in notes of shorter duration than those first used.
Etymology: 12751325; Middle English diminucion < Anglo-French diminuciun < Latin dīminūtiōn- (stem of dīminūtiō ), for dēminūtiōn- (stem of dēminūtiō ) (by influence of dīmunuere; see diminish), equivalent to dēminūt ( us ) (past participle of dēminuere, equivalent to dē- de- + minuere to lessen) + -iōn- -ion
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Is he still around?
no, it is a blank page that says SULIA at the top.
that was excellent! A+++++
You don’t have to be “gay” to be slender, either-my skinny self likes the men just fine-not the girls-even though I’m not “girly” enough for most because I do physical work with men as coworkers and hanging-out pals. Different strokes, and all that...
Have a great time, and cherish the time with your mom-I would give just about anything to have my mom alive, right here, safe and sound with me, no matter what.
nope, same thing. if you give the title of it, i will just google it.
Thank you!
That is great, but i don’t think the left has lost much control of the schools despite that. A+++
Mmm, good. Lunch: chicken sauteed in garlic butter sauce served over cheese tortellini with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.
That made my day-there is always hope when the young embrace God...
If God wants our schools back, then He will take them. It’s probably the only way at this point.
Isn’t there? I love it.
Thanks. Mom looks good (she’s’ 100+ years old) but she falls asleep while talking. She still shows her old spark from time to time.
I’m very uncomfortable, however, because last summer her house was burglarized. One of the reasons we are here is to pick up her recovered goods. We haven’t told her about the burglary and have since sold her house (she does know about that). She would be devastated about the burglary, and it doesn’t really matter. She does not need any of that stuff.
Now that the case has been ajudicated (sp?) we need to collect her property. I have to lie to her about what we are doing when we are not visiting. I hate that!
I was just having fun, equating the “California lifestyle” with “gay.”
No slight intended to the slight.
do it while she’s sleeping!
Sounds yummy-I’d love garlic sauce even on styrofoam insulation, I think. I’m probably going to have tuna with a tomato and some diced onion, and a grapefruit.
I’m hungry for fresh fish, and someone left a small fish trap against the fence by the river, so I don’t even have to dig out my rod and reel-but the river is only about 1 ft. deep there, so all I’ve seen are minnows, and perch too little to eat. Fishing will require a walk upriver to find a deep pool...
It’s complicated to retrieve stolen goods. Her property is in 2 places — police property room (closed on Mondays) and a Pawn Shop. You have to have appointments and letters, etc. issued by specific people and setting specific times. I’ve been working on this since August. Plus there is a cache of unsold goods from her estate sale that we need to collect. The person holding that is sick with the flu, and I don’t want to get anywhere near her. We’ll do that next week.
All of this stuff has to be boxed and shipped to Wisconsin, or placed in consignment shops here. It’s a lot of work.
In a word — don’t get burgled. The thief (a meth head) is already out on the street plying her trade to feed her habit. Thank God Mom wasn’t still living in her house when they broke in (the man got off scott free.) She could have been hurt, or killed.
Of course when I told her that the new owners of her house had put on a new roof and the place looks good, she says, “Oh, we probably should have hung on to it!”
Me: roll eyes!
Ironically enough...there’s this guy....
Nevermind.
