Word For The Day, Monday, 1/13/14
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
diminution; noun
1. the act, fact, or process of diminishing; lessening; reduction. 2. Music. the repetition or imitation of a subject or theme in notes of shorter duration than those first used.
Etymology: 12751325; Middle English diminucion < Anglo-French diminuciun < Latin dīminūtiōn- (stem of dīminūtiō ), for dēminūtiōn- (stem of dēminūtiō ) (by influence of dīmunuere; see diminish), equivalent to dēminūt ( us ) (past participle of dēminuere, equivalent to dē- de- + minuere to lessen) + -iōn- -ion
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Practice makes perfect.....post on....
You know I would never do such a thing.
But that was clever!
Lmao. I’ve been on a mirth roll for the past couple days, incoming and outgoing.
That made me chuckle audibly
I’m on twitter for the articles. And sports updates.
wow that was quite an indictment. what a scumbag that doc is, and i am sure that goes on all the time. recall i went through the first name biz with xsbaby’s HS teachers. most egregiously, the potheaded ditz who was her english teacher. it is a generational thing. my friend maia and i have talked about this, she’s 20 years younger than i am. her parents were hippies, and her friends called them by their first names and she called her friends parents by their first names.
hi. the word is there.
one problem is that you used the word itself in the
definition.
diminution; noun - 1. the act ... of diminishing
“diminishing” should have been left out of the definition.
You fit in well here. That is a big pet peeve among most of us. My youngest asked what a plutocrat was last night and in looking it up, the defintion said a member of a plutocracy. Argh!
Even in their best intentioned moments.
Women are ultra competitive, in regard to other women.
It’s where the term catty comes from
The back end of my post meant that If you had something to say...it’d be nice to hear :-)
take it up with dictionary.com : ) today’s word is not diminish, it’s the noun— diminution. it’s my turn to be anal retentive and pedantic like the Soother.
I agree that most women are very critical of other women. But not all of us! And competition? I’ll give you one of my favorite examples. I can be out jogging the trails and women pass each other routinely, smile and wave, no biggie. But if one of them passes a man, regardless of his physical condition, he will pound pavement and pant and do everything in his power to pass her, making it obvious and then start walking and check his watch.
As long as there is a definition somewhere and not just an endless referential circle, you’re OK.
I’m wishing for a diminution of my midwestern body to glide into a California lifestyle while visiting on the west coast.
Issa has MY support, FWIW. I don’t cotten to those supposed conservatives on Free Repuublic who are always trying to shoot the messenger.
You don’t have to be skinny to be gay. ;-)
Can’t be catty on the move.
Here’s how that works...
Hear it at the gym all the time
The smile and wave, does not preclude the subsequent conversation...lol
Guys like that are dipshits.
I only use other runners as targets.
They have to be far enough away, to make running them down, challenge my ability.
A++++ say hi to mom, hope you are having fun ; )
When we are all out there on the trail, I prefer to think we are all supporting each other’s efforts to get/stay healthy. Maybe I’m naive, but I’m happier believing it. The ones that are irksome are the walkers who clap their hands and say “Looking good!” as if any of us are looking for approval.
I’d just like to be skinny enough to avoid swollen feet when I fly and for a week afterward.
