A couple years ago doc put us on Crestor for cholesterol...the prescription price via insurance was $30 for a month's supply.
Just got my first refill for the new year. $180. Thanks, Obamugabe.
People’s experiences do vary with statins. My 96 YO mother, for example, has been taking statins continuously since Pravachol first came on the market (’88-89, maybe?). It is only now that she is beginning to show early symptoms of Alzheimers, as almost anyone that age would.
TNF inhibitors: infliximab, etanercept, certolizumab pegol and golimumab
That price is a scam - buy it from Mexico (Costco/Walmart) or Canada.
Have you looked at the side effects of drugs like crestor?
It tears up your muscles. I used to have to help my Brother climb the three steps to get into his house.
He died a little over a year ago.
When contemplating what it can do to your muscles, remember that your heart is a muscle, so it is being torn up also.
I agree with that! It messed up my Dad’s legs pretty badly.
true..
i have had 2 heart doctors tell me the same thing..
A quick search found this site which offers a coupon for Humira. Might be worth printing it out and see what your actual cost would be.
Tried the Niacin...my blood work did not change. Did see improvement with Crestor.
PRAISE GOD!
Thanks for caring for your parent. May God Bless you and give you strength.
I took care of both of mine til they passed.
I was glad to do it.
I went for a physical some 15 years ago, first one in a decade, and the doc found 'elevated' levels and recommended a couple of medications. Tried every type of 'diet' known to man: No change, no food allergies. Relented on meds. Lipitor did nothing for my levels. Tried another I can't recall: Nada. Crestor was the only one. Slowly, over time, I began having side effects (muscle cramps). Called the doc, had tests: No sign of liver issues. Another year later I began having circulatory problems (waking up in the middle of the night with 'noodle arm'). I also suddenly began having unexplained weight gain. One day I looked in the mirror and thought I looked a bit 'orange' and my eyes were sunken in their sockets. I quit Crestor.
Within a few years, ALL of the side effects have completely cleared up (muscle cramps, circulatory problems) save for the weight gain. Even my Mother noticed a change in my appearance later, with a return of a 'normal-looking' face. I'm also convinced the Crestor damaged my system. I now have to avoid processed foods of all types or I pack on a pound a day.
If you're subscribing to the fact that cholesterol is bad for you and don't mind poisoning your system for someone's gain (not you), keep taking it.
Otherwise, read this and maybe you'll find you can save some $$ and improve your health.
Thanks for looking and trying to help. Very much appreciated. Unfortunately those have all been re-classified under Obamacare and have seen the same/similar price increases. Some are cheaper, unfortunately for me Humira's the only thing that's managed to work. Each of the biologic drugs attempts to affect inflammation/switch off TNF in different ways. It's somewhat of a trial and error process to find the one that works for a specific individual.....
It is evident that your self interest overrides your concern for others. So you have to pay a little more, what about the people waiting for gender reassignment medication,or the
impoverished hanging on by their fingertips waiting for Methadone, did you think about all the children, suffering and waiting for Ritalin.
What about our women especially single mothers whose lives are in turmoil, wallowing in poverty and in desperate need of Zanax and Valium.
You must be a uncompassionate mean old Republican.
While this is written tongue in cheek, this is precisely the way that Democrats will respond to your post in 2014.
See if he can switch you to Lipitor. I believe the generic for that is free at Miejers. (Or $4 if it’s not)
Is it safe to stop statins once you are on them? Or do you have to wean gradually off of them?
bflr
One of those rare places where God tells us the 'why' of it.
GoodRx blog a handy source of news on prescription drugs
Note - I have no affiliation with the Self-Pay Patient blog other than I find it a useful and helpful source of info.
I have found nothing to suggest that stopping statins needs to be done gradually. I would suggest supplementing with things like
. Vitamin D3
. CoQ 10
. B-Vitamins
. Vitamin C
. Selenium
