In previous years, the percentage of obese patients hospitalized for flu was in the 20-30 percent range, according to health authorities. Being overweight is a risk factor for having a less efficient immune system, which can make people vulnerable to infection.
...
Most of the cases in the U.S. are the H1N1 flu strain, which caused a global pandemic during the 2009-2010 flu season.

Conclusion in search of facts. FAIL.
Since half the nation (including myself) is obese why is this newsworthy???
“Nearly Half Hospitalized for Flu Are Obese”
That means this headline is also true:
“Less than Half Hospitalized for Flu Are Obese.”
> Half the people today are obese. So if half the flu cases are in obese people, so what?
Anytime you see a statistic like this published in the public domain expect a government policy or regulation to follow (they’re probably the source ofthe propagandist material themselves). You will probably have to be within certain weight limits for your health insurance to pay or certain benefits.
Ah so! Indeed ! Thanks.
now that definitely has my curiousity going
just looked at a recipe for that.
with sour cream icing? I am SO trying this!!
I made the cake last night and just this minute hollered at the family because there’s nothing left but an empty pan. I make it from scratch but you can make it with a dark chocolate boxed mix like a devil’s food. Follow the box instructions. Dump a can of sauerkraut into a colandar and rinse it well. Chop up any large pieces of kraut. Stir the kraut into the batter and bake. Doesn’t need a frosting because the kraut makes it very moist. Don’t over bake it so it’ll be sort of like a brownie.
I also make a chocolate cake with beets. Of course, the beets turn it a bit red. But the kraut is the hands down favorite.
I order that or a pineapple pie for my birthdays - yes, it’s that good. It’s so rich and moist that you don’t have to ice it. I like it better without.
“... the beets turn it a bit red..”
Like a red velvet cake!
global pandemic...?
Wow...a pandemic ?
I missed that one...I must have been asleep...
We have aggressively managed this and thus far have had only one death, but there are many hospitals reporting several deaths related to this. This is a public health problem and no joking matter.
Wow...sounds like exactly what I had...for the last two weeks...I am 55, obese, little hypertensive, Type II diabetic.
I was sick for about three days and whatever I had turned into a sinus infection that lasted for two weeks...
I do take a regimen of vitamins and supplements...
This is the first time I have gotten the flu in about eight years...I attribute that to the multi vitamins and D3 I take...
I realize the flu can be very serious if your health is already compromised...I just never thought the 2009 - 2010 flu season was a pandemic...
You had “the crap”. I had it a few months ago. Finally cleared after a few weeks and all congestion was gone after about 4 weeks.
Almost as soon as this was ending I got nailed by something else that gave me hives (not an allergic reaction), fever and more congestion. Three weeks later this was gone. Hives took a week to go though.
Doc theorized that the Prednisone given to me by the “Critical Care” place down the road for the first illness, weakened my immune system and left me open for the second illness.
Regardless. I rarely get sick two years in a row let alone twice in a year.
A statistic without context.
What percentage of the population at large is obese? How does that percentage compare to the percentage with the flu?
It’s frustrating. I’ve had a cough now for about 3 months. Just excess mucous. No real infection, just post nasal drip triggering the cough.
Now everybody at work and at the department stores are reporting they’ve also had it, but it lasts about a week with the cough.
Chalk it up to chemtrails. <8^0
