I was talking about the two years after that if the yanks want to dump him
talking about 2016 and 2017. Of course the yanks would have to supplement whatever salary someone else will pay him.
They don’t have to play him. And he may not be worth playing. but at the end of the day, they are paying him a ton of money, and it’s messing with their salary cap.
The Texas Rangers paid A-Roid over $40 million AFTER he left Texas.
yes I know. The yanks have money to burn
Usually many if not most athletes can take it many more years from their late 30s. But what happens after 10 to 15 years of play is they lose their fire in their bellies and the game is not as fun to them so they move on. They still have the skills for a decade or more, but lose the drive.
Manning is still very hungry.
Sports was much better when players had to get jobs in the off-season....Now they make millions for doing absolutely nothing.
Salary cap? What's that?
Jim Leyland retired at the end of the season and made big news in baseball when he did it.
Tigers new Manager is a youngster named Brad Ausmus who actually looks pretty good. Oddly enough his last managing gig was for the Israelis.
He had a 10 year, $275 million contract that ends in 2017.

******
For the 38-year-old Rodriguez, it means the loss of an entire season and
$25 million in salary. The Yankees will gain $27.5 million worth of salary
relief for luxury tax purposes, since the average annual value of his deal
is what counts there. That will aid the teams attempt to get below the
$189 million threshold to reset their luxury tax rate, but it leaves a
major hole in their lineup.

end snip
Torii Hunter is also nearing 40 and still playing some fine baseball.
I think A-Rod has a fire BELOW his belly and needs to play to pay for expenses.
For one year any way. Screw the Yankees. I'm no fan of AROD but The Yankees knew all about this issue when they traded for him. They had a chance to walk away from him when he opted out of his contract a few years ago but the team chose to pay him even more money. Now the Yankees are crying about all the money they are paying him and have to pay him as his skills rapidly diminish. The team is trying everything they can not to pay him what they legally owe him. They new perfectly well what they were doing when they signed him to that big deal.
The question then is whether a year's suspension is a material breach of the contract. That's a question of fact for a jury. Do you think A-Rod is likely to get a sympathetic jury in NYC?
And this Mariner’s fan just sits and smiles. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer jerk...I mean, person. :)
if mlb really wanted to end this, they wouldn’t just penalize the player, they would penalize the team, as well.
there is no way the yankees didn’t know that this guy was dirty.
the yankmees get a $27 million kiss for being stupid and for turning a blind eye to PED use.
Good
A-roid is a cheater
