Interesting article -- bottom line, drinking in moderation is actually good for you, excessive drinking, on the other hand is bad and does do damage.

Chronic alcoholics can suffer from a disease called “Korsakoff’s Syndrome”.This syndrome,IIRC,causes substantial damage to the brain but isn’t caused directly by the alcohol itself.Rather,it’s caused by a vitamin deficiency seen in people with chronically poor diets and many chronic alcoholics surely do have abysmal diets.Another group that was affected by Korsakoff’s is concentration camp survivors, many of whom *also* had chronically inadequate diets.

Yes, that's why it's considered a CNS depressant.

WC Fields,in a confused,concerned manner to a bartender (Shemp):

"Was I in here last night and did I spend a $20 bill?

Bartender: "Yah"!

Fields, chuckling, obviously feeling relieved: "What a load that is off my mind.I thought I'd lost it"

Especially those naggy "you shouldn't do that" cells. For some reason the keep telling me that I can't dance or sing karoke well. Drink until they shut up for once.

It doesn’t kill brain cells, it just makes them wish they were dead.

It's not the drinking that of alcohol that kills the brain cells, it's the falling down and hitting your head!
