It appears the author did not conduct sufficient research on Kerry; had she, she might well have concluded he was quite different than Hagel and McCain.
For starters, Kerry consorted with the enemy while the conflict continued. I.e., Kerry was "turned" either during or before the conflict in VN. The other two actually confronted the enemy on our behalf as they had sworn to do.
Importantly, Kerry's childhood family environment, which was exposed to some degree during his presidential candidacy, suggests that he was subjected early on at the family dining room table to anti-American attitudes and pro-Soviet inclinations.
