“What’s the score? Still 0-0? I thought so.”

hahaha! i have had this same conversation with soccer moms the last 10 years or so... to them, soccer is so exciting, something always going on... to me, it does not compare with football, not even baseball... they don't get how i can get into a baseball game... sheesh--with every pitch, every swing, every foul ball, every hit, every play, every fly, every out thrown, my son says, "mom--you experience about seven different emotions in 2 seconds of baseball!" and it is the same with football... every snap... every scramble... every sack, every yard gained, every yard lost, every roll out... every tackle, every catch... the clock running down... every kick, punt, penalty, fumble, interception... i cannot get enough! :)

I prefer hockey as it basically soccer on ice with the brute physicality of football.

I am NOT a soccer fan, except that I will on occasion watch women’s soccer hoping they will take off their jerseys at the end. However, the low scoring we hear about in soccer - a 3 to 2 soccer match is not much different than a 21 to 14 football game. Still just 5 scores in the game.

"still 0-0?"

I remember watching an episode of "The Simpsons" some years ago, and the family was attending a soccer game. The game had a big buildup, and Homer was real excited. Then the game began. The "excitement" consisted of two players kicking the ball back and forth to each other without progressing towards the goal. Homer became visibly outraged and eventually walked out of the stadium. I think.

At any rate, there was some so-called big soccer game on the tv a few days later, so I decided to check it out. Sure enough, the game started with one team kicking the ball back and forth to each without advancing towards the goal. If one player did get the ball ahead of a defender anywhere near the goal, he was called for being offside, and the whole damned boring process started anew. I didn't watch the whole thing, but it was quite a bit into the game before one side actually got a shot on goal. Which, of course, missed. That's why Americans don't watch soccer.
