This happens to anyone who breaks down in Venezuela, at any time of day. There are hundreds of thousands of people out there waiting for the chance to rob them. It can happen at the bus stop, on the bus, anywhere any time and the police are unable or unwilling to help. The chance of a victim getting justice in the courts is close to zero.
I would think that at some point the nation would basically fall apart, with militias cordoning off neighborhoods or subdivisions, with roadblocks, privately-run checkpoints, armored convoys... that sort of thing. How do people live in that place?
And just imagine, in Venezuelan big cities, there are bad neighborhoods that are really bad.
This is the nation who's dictator-for-life came over here, to the United Nations, and publically insulted our President from the podium. "Smell of brimstone," etc. And our MSM lapped it all up with delight.

From a related article:
"Venezuela has one of the highest murder rates in the world with more killings than the United States and Europe combined, according to one estimate."

With that low bridge, I bet they hang out like vultures waiting for the next truck to get stuck. Like when I was a kid. Hang out at the corner at the bottom of the hill in winter and push cars out of the snow bank and hope for a tip. (Most folks were good for $5!) We talked about bringing buckets of water out to REALLY get it icy - but never did.

Yeah, so this chick leaves her home, which is undoubtedly in a very secure, gated community, hops in her car, goes outside the walls, has car trouble, pulls off the road... and is almost immediately robbed and murdered.I'd read that she moved to Florida because Venezuela had become too violent. Maybe she was back visiting family.

Ah Man! She was my favorite Miss Venezuela. Descanse en paz. I’m praying her baby makes it.
BTW, I think it was Miss Venezuela/Universe 2009 who was kidnapped as a teenager. Venezuela is becoming a human zoo.

DUDE I hear of her She was in novelera that I watch Telemundo couple years ago I knew some ex Venezuelan Beauty Queen was shot, but I had no idea it was Monica Spear until I saw a blurb on Telemundo tonight.
I've watched her in several Telenovelas over the past few years. I assumed she lived in Florida, and was so fair skinned, I had no idea she was Venezuelan. Wha the hell was she doing in Venezuela?
Very sad. Hope her daughter makes it..

I only just now realized it was Spear. Like you I had watched her in a couple of novelas starting with her first a couple of years ago (Prima Ciela)...
Shocking. I work with a lot of Venezuelans, though, and lived there a couple of times years ago so I get it. Tragic.

I only just now realized it was Spear. I saw they've arrested 7 people for her murder, three of them are in their teens, IIRC.
Such a waste. She apparently used her fame to raise awareness on autism, and domestic violence. Aside from her obvious outer beauty, by all accounts, she was a carring, humble person.
Also, even though the headlines all read "Venezuelan Beauty Queen", Monica Speaer was an American Citizen.
