Shes doubling down. Amy Chua, the self-proclaimed Tiger Mom who, in 2011, published a book arguing that Chinese women are superior mothers thus their offspring superior children has even more to say. In The Triple Package, Chua and her husband, co-author Jed Rubenfeld, gather some specious stats and anecdotal evidence to argue that some groups are just superior to others and everyone else is contributing to the downfall of America.

I love it when people deride anecdotal evidence, as if it’s made up.
well let’s see, the Chinese put melamine in pet food, the Chinese put fox meat in with donkey meat, the Chinese paint toys with lead paint.................hmmmm, don’t think the Jewish people do those things
That is correct. And the same thing has been said, at various times and places, about Armenians, Lebanese, Swiss, Englishmen, Dutch, Yankees, etc. Its the usual complaint by an established gentry class against an upwardly mobile minority.
Sad, just plain sad.
That mother's MOTHER turned her own daughter into another witch with a B.
I had a Chinese girl student who came to the counselors because her father was molesting her. Turned out that the father had molested the older four daughters too and that this last daughter should just TAKE IT. Yes, mother knew all about the molestation and rapes but said/did NOTHING.
The girl was taken out of the home and put into foster care: double loss, both family and home and NO justice for that a-hole father. No-win for the girl.
Fool.
That is the losers cry.
Winners will see that they have success factors to copy.
Amy Chua has described many of them.
Be guided to success, or stew pointlessly in resentment.
Interesting point of view. As an American, my favorite “elite” group will always be WASP Americans. They really founded this country and turned it into a great nation. Were they perfect? No way. But they managed to be highly successful and, yet, managed to be polite and professional at the same time. As a kid, they were my favorite people to work for. Alas, they don’t seem to be around anymore.
So true.
Did you know that RUBIES are actually worth more than diamonds? They are scarcer.
SOME people take a lot of knowing before their good side emerges. GGRrrrrrr! :o)
Be guided to success.
I’m telling you, you have a career writing for those cookies! Don’t be a loser - go for it!
“I love it when people deride anecdotal evidence, as if its made up.”
It kind of is, by definition, as it is evidence of nothing.
I went to LaSalle myself. Old Taft Avenue boy, me.
My Engineering class thirty years ago was 80% Chinese.
They aren’t “beginning to discover” anything. They knew it. Now they are finally willing to admit it.
And let’s not even get into Chinese pork and chicken imports - for human consumption.
We’re talking about jokes about MONEY, not food.
Some Mel Brooks ( who is Jewish ) jokes:
Where does the Jewish husband hide his money from his wife? Under the vacuum cleaner.

Sammy has stolen the rabbi’s gold watch.
He didn’t feel too good about it, so he decided, after a sleepless night.
to go to the rabbi.
‘Rabbi, I stole a gold watch.’
‘But Sammy ! That’s forbidden! You should return it immediately !’
‘What shall I do ?’
‘Give it back to the owner.’
‘Do you want it ?’
‘No, I said return it to its owner.’
‘But he doesn’t want it.’
‘In that case, you can keep it.’

It was two days before Chanukah and Mr. Feldman, quite downcast, was trudging home. “Where will I get money to buy presents for the holiday?” he asked himself sadly, thinking of his wife and children. On the way, he passed a church, in front of which was a sign:
One Hundred Dollars Cash To Anyone Who Joins This Church Today!
Here was the solution to Feldman’s problem! He went in, joined, and was given the hundred dollars as the sign promised. That evening, at supper, he told his family how he had come by his sudden wealth. “And here’s the hundred,” he announced grandly, waving the money before them.
“Darling,” said his wife, “you remember that coat you promised me three years ago? Well it’s on sale at Macy’s.”
“How much is it?”
“Only fifty dollars, and it’s worth at least eighty five.”
Feldman peeled off five tens and gave them to her.
The son spoke up. “Pop, for a long time I’ve been saving up to buy one of those English bikes with ten gear shifts. I already have most of the money, but I need a little more.”
“How much more?”
“Twenty five dollars.”
Feldman handed over the money.
“Daddy,” said his teen age daughter, “next week our school is having the most important dance of the whole year. If I don’t have a new dress, I’ll simply die.”
“Don’t die Sweetheart. How much is the dress?”
“Only twenty five dollars, Daddy dear.”
Feldman handed over the remaining twenty five dollars, leaned back and grinned. “It never fails,” he announced. “The minute we Gentiles have a little money, you Jews take it away from us!”
My God! Her husband is a John Kerry clone.
Ah, I am an old dog with my own career already. Chua is much better at this stuff, she is well worth a read, her first book in particular.
People survive on anecdotal evidence. As a kid, I never read any statistics on black kids doing the pimp roll being more dangerous than Jewish accountants. And yet I knew instinctively to get across the street when they came my way. Accountants, not so much.
Gonna give that one a pass. Prefer to read my cookbooks and give a quick browse through today’s Sunday Times.

Hey, I did not know you were ( how do they call it ) — a Pinoy...
Anyway, I was there doing business ( Integrated circuit testing ) with INTEL then.
The interesting thing about Amy Chua ( the subject of this thread ) is this -— her father, Leon Chua, a UC Berkeley professor, is famous in the world of Analog Chip design. He is recognized for his contributions to nonlinear circuit theory and Cellular neural network and being one of the early co-developers of SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis), a general-purpose, open source analog electronic circuit simulator.
It is a powerful program that is used in integrated circuit and board-level design to check the integrity of circuit designs and to predict circuit behavior.
The man graduated from the Philippine’s version of MIT ( Mapua Institute of Technology ).
Oh, and the architectural atrocities you probably noticed at LaSalle were the result of noveau riche Chinese donors with no taste. There is a serious downside to a lack of polish. The original 1920’s building commissioned by the Christian Brothers is lovely.
And yet despite that, anecdotal evidence is still not evidence of anything.
