Via Climatologist Dr. Roy Spencer: This Sundays NFL Game in Green Bay: Coldest Ever? http://www.drroyspencer.com/2014/01/this-sundays-nfl-game-in-green-bay-coldest-ever/ The latest GFSx MOS temperature forecast is now -8 deg. F for game time in Green Bay on Sunday evening for the playoff game between the Packers and the 49ers. This is getting awfully close to the record coldest NFL game temperature of -13 deg. F, set Dec. 31, 1967 at Lambeau Field during The Ice Bowl, the NFL Championship game between the Packers and Dallas Cowboys. The 2nd coldest game was Jan. 10, 1982 at Riverfront Stadium during the AFC Championship game between Cincinnati Bengals and San Diego Chargers, at -9 deg. F, so Sundays game might take the #2 spot. The top 10 coldest NFL games are listed here. Makes my hands hurt just thinking about it. I was at a game, ‘67 I believe, where it was -13F. We had seats in a corner of the oval about 2/3rds of the way to the top. When the crowd cheered we could not see the field due to the rising water vapor. (No, this wasn’t the “Ice Bowl”)
is the cold weather due to global warming? Where’s Al Gore???
There are four kinds of tundra: Arctic tundra, Alpine tundra, Antarctic tundra and Lambeau Field.
Even if the temperature is lower on Sunday, the ice bowl was windier AND the wiring to warm the field failed in 1967.
Haha
There is no way I would sit in the stands for that one. I’m a fan, not a (damned) fool. I once sat in 100 degree heat at Fenway. Never again, I’m not bring paid millions of dollars to be there.
Think about it, millions of people who would normally be outdoors will be indoors watching the game. That means a lot less body heat to warm the outside. Thus the temperature will drop further. Back in 1967, we didn't have quite so many people watching on TV. Many people were out hunting, ice-fishing, chopping firewood and things like that.
That game had sustained winds at 27 mph giving it a -38 degree wind chill.
This winter is the obamacare of climate change. Eventually we had to stop talking about obamacare and experience it. This winter we are experiencing “climate change”.
Per talk this morning, the worst case comes in as third coldest.
< P > and < br > are our friends.
The coldest Super Bowl, weather-wise, was played in New Orleans, LA at a gametime temperature of 39F.
for later
puh-leeze...
This storm is down to 0 and it is freakign people out?
I remember a -14 day when I was a kid and we went outside ON PURPOSE to see what it was like and play in it. Even boiled some water and threw it in the air to see what happens (instant snow) - very different than room temp water too
People are wimps these days
I watched the ice bowl on TV. I was warm.
