Free Republic Deserves Better, again!

Wow!

It's been ten or so years since I followed an FR fundraising thread. The dedication, the technichal dexterity, the shear perseverence of the leaders is just astounding and humbling.

I believe, the last time I was really paid attention, there was a discussion concerning the servers to be purchased, the support required for such, and the necessity for funding.

Back in those days I would provide some dusty nugget bumps that were a year or two old.I hadn't any idea of the requirments to support the servers. The cost was astounding.

Meanwhile, Prodigy died off, Prodigy Internet died off, and I signed on with a dialup.

That puter died and I kind of drifted off as my net access was through my employer and limited, of necessity, by descretion. More so as my employer's IT folks got capable, and numerous.

That history being related, FR jumps!!!!

FR is by far the fastest sight I routinely use. The IT support here is outstanding!

That speed costs money! Get off your wallets. If you use this site, pony up. It is ridiculous that these oh so dedicated folks, have to labor for months to beg bucks. There is not a site user here who can observe this without drawing an obvious conclusion.

A tiny cadre of dedicated supportive members are having to work for months to garner sufficient money to carry the load for a vast number of users who are quite casual about their obligations.

I saw a contribution of $6.90 mailed in. No doubt that contributor counted pennies from their income and did the best they could do.

A subscription service seem obvious, but, the need for FR is beyond an accounting of cost!

The need is as important as Paul Revere's ride and the North Church light. It aint by sea folks, it's by our land!

Let us make fundraising threads brief, let us join the ranks of the monthly supporters.

If that's not possible for you due to fluctuating income, then make a yearly obigation. hell it's no worse than an annual property tax or income tax bill. You just gotta figure out a way to make it happen.

Make it so!

Pat

You need to get out more.

I don't come to FR because it is the fastest "sight", but because it has the best pro-God, pro-gun, pro-Constitution commentary anywhere on the Internet. And you'll find out things here before you hear about them anywhere else.

So, yeah, let's kick in. But not because it's the fastest site on the Internet. I mean, let's be honest; FR has been broken many, many times in the last year.

Amen, FRiend.

I posted this on another thread a day or two ago :

28,000 x $1/month = no more FReepathons.

Let's summarize, shall we : ONE dollar per MONTH !

Given this site's membership + habitual lurkers, that the above is not the case should be a source of constant embarrassment to many.

"...fastest sight..."

Really? My persistence of vision doesn't quite mask a 60 Hz refresh rate but 75 Hz seems to be plenty fast.

Really, John and Jim have done an outstanding job in the last year. It’s true that 2012 was not a good year in more ways then one, and the speed of FR last year could, at times, be called glacial. But 2013 happened and FR has made a giant leap with very few bumps, and even fewer as the year wore on. I hope for good things this year. Both in November and on FR. It won’t be free, but it’s worth it.

“You need to get out more.”

You got that right brother. I’ll try “Site.”

Thing is most sites are over loaded with ads, and tracking software, and pop ups, and who the heck knows what all. With my rural and primitive access FR indeed rocks.

You need to get way the heck out here more.

How do you feel about 2013?

Crap can’t even get that right.

I’m a hick, way the heck out near the middle of nowhere. With primitive access. And it’s freakin’ cold. Well cold for me, dropping to a forcast of 27 tonight. The curtains on my camper at the hunting property are standing two inches away from the window due to the drafty nature of a 1974 camper. Cammo hunting togs I’ve got. Critter in crosshairs tomorrow.

Get off the wallets and support FR!

Heck, I can’t guarantee an income next week. But I can guarantee a contribution for a quarter. I’m not the only scrambler in this crowd.

I mostly spent 2012 in a haze of surgeries and drugs. Spent 2013 in a haze of drugs and therapy. I am now aware of my shortcomings and ounce again in the world.

Most sites are clogged up with adds, tracking software, doubleclick malware, and assorted incomprehensible threats to your personal security.

Pony up for FR!

I hear ya, FRiend.

I became a monthly donor a couple years ago, can't do much, just a sawbuck a month, but that $120/yr (which I think of as 30 cents a day) is paid back to me with the best collection of news, commentary, social and political discussion, witty repartee, flames, humor, spirituality, and random weirdness that exists anywhere on the net. And I've been around most of the web, for more than 20 years now.

The only content FR doesn't have is leftist propaganda and porn. And nobody in their right mind needs either of those.

As to the speed of the site, it's fine! I'm way the hell out in the rural backwoods of upstate New York, on a slow DSL line, and the site loads better than anything except the Google search page. The lack of ads on FR is a Godsend -- it keeps things from bogging down, it doesn't distract, etc. etc. Yeah, there's an occasional glitch -- show me a server anywhere that doesn't cough up a hairball from time to time. I'm a System Admin, I know.

Maybe I'm an old-timer but I like simple pages of cleanly formatted text and a few graphics. It's like reading a book, only better. I absolutely LOVE the way the site runs!

In my opinion, Free Republic is the way ALL forums and commentary sites should be. Where the emphasis is on the content and information, not a bunch of ads and goofy unrelated crap. Easy to read, easy to search, no frills, just right.

I consider myself a guest in JimRob's living room, and try to conduct myself accordingly. In return, he provides me with more informative, entertaining, and thought-provoking content EVERY DAY than I can possibly get tired of.

FR rocks!
