The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday night 24-22. The Cowboys starting quarterback, Tony Romo, was recuperating at home following back surgery, and backup quarterback Kyle Orton was at the Dallas helm. The Cowboys had a chance to regain the lead on their final drive of the game when Orton threw an interception...
Football fans, Dallas and otherwise, elevated Orton to instant Romo status:
Yes, they got a delay of game, but in that same series they scored a TD, so it didn’t matter to the outcome of the game.
You are correct. However, the Cowboy staff was ASLEEP on the clock, and stayed asleep, in the drive prior to the interception. Embarrassing. Dynamics have their place.
Sorry, but you can’t point fingers at the QB when the defense let the Eagles gain as many yards as they wanted to at any given time ... especially on 3rd and long. And you can’t blame the QB when play calls were stupid ... like that pass called on 4th and an inch.
Nope.
The playoff-bound SF 49ers.
I just love pro football. When the NASCAR season is over. Have little interest in college football. Just me.
I noticed that too. Collinsworth had all the neutrality of an MSNBC talking head on election night.
The intended receivers are the problem more often than not — but that’s true of QBs generally. Romo led them to the end of season run this year, but I doubt anyone could have foreseen that Green Bay game outcome (he had a 80 rating for that game alone). The QB relies on having a pocket and having open receivers, just like RBs rely on having a lane — IOW, teamwork is what wins games. But the QB is going to be the goat, and the middle of his career is when it generally happens, particularly when there’s no SB ring yet.
Dallas has other problems, none of which are not subject to a fix is the will exists. They need a good young QB, will they get that or will they continue as 500 team year after year?
As a Bears fan I always hated Orton, his short dink and dunk passes irritated the heck out of me. Well there’s that and also the fact that when we drafted him one of the big libs on the Trib wrote that Orton’s debate at Purdue against the Bush administration were, “The things that legends were made of.” Pfffftttttttt....hate his guts.
That was for all intents and purposes, a “Replacement Team” out there on defense for the Cowboys....Never even heard of all but one or two guys. Most were probably working at Home Depot last year.
Of course that’s mainly due to poor drafting and poor conditioning.
Yeah, they really should have caught that. No excuse for being that oblivious.
The worst retro jersey has to belong to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Yep!
The Dallas Cowboys: Great in September, Awful in December, Golfing in January.
The thing that damn near defeated the Eagles is that the QB is willing to eat the football rather than throw a bad pass. A strength that is his greatest weakness.
There are three things that can happen on a run, and two of them are bad too.
...you’d think that some perspicacious young reporter would have challenged old Woody, with exactly that retort...’you know, Woody, when you run the ball, you can get good yardage, you can get no yardage, or you could fumble...two of those three aren’t so good...’
...would anyone have ever been so brave...?
I doubt it. And I guess I'd understand why :)
