Perry was told it was for the girls' better health; he listened to the public health docs and the pharma execs--and probably some docs that he played golf with . The pediatricians were behind it, too (and they never were fans of industry).

Perry was no expert, but listened to bad advice from 'experts' he trusted. Bad and sad all around, but this sure hurt Perry during the campaign.

My wife and I were new arrived (California refugees) in Texas when Perry first mandated Gardasil for young girls. We knew then (in our guts) that it was wrong, and would have fought tooth and nail if anyone had tried to force our daughter to take it.

Good on Dr. Diane Harper for having the courage to stand up and tell the truth about it. That's a rare trait these days.
