Perry was told it was for the girls' better health; he listened to the public health docs and the pharma execs--and probably some docs that he played golf with . The pediatricians were behind it, too (and they never were fans of industry).
Perry was no expert, but listened to bad advice from 'experts' he trusted. Bad and sad all around, but this sure hurt Perry during the campaign.

IIRC Perry owned stock in the company that made Gardisil. Not enough to make or break him but enough for the whole deal to smell bad.

And all these expert opinions were supplied by the lobbyists for the manufacturer of the vaccines who also offered to pay big bucks for making their product mandatory. For the right fee I can obtain an expert medical opinion that says anything I want.
