The Boy Scouts of America will accept openly gay youths starting on New Years Day, a historic change that has prompted the BSA to ponder a host of potential complicationsranging from policies on tentmates and showers to whether Scouts can march in gay pride parades.
Yet despite their be-prepared approach, BSA leaders are rooting for the change to be a non-event, comparable to another New Years Day in 2000 when widespread fears of digital-clock chaos to start the new millennium proved unfounded.
My hope is there will be the same effect this Jan. 1 as the Y2K scare, said Brad Haddock, a BSA national executive board member who chairs the policy implementation committee. Its business as usual, nothing happens and we move forward.
Some churches are dropping their sponsorship of Scout units because of the new policy and some families are switching to a new conservative alternative called Trail Life USA. But massive defections havent materialized and most major sponsors, including the Roman Catholic and Mormon churches, are maintaining ties.

Our troop already had a gay Scout. But now he’s not gay anymore so I don’t know what to do.
> maybe his gay parent’s influence isn’t as strong as that of the den.
My daughters school had a kid who was so proud of how gay he was
Then he went to college and met a woman (he never actually dated a guy, ever)
Schools are trying to make kids THINK they are gay and giving encouragement. I think they even gave him a scholarship
“Happy” trails to you...
Oh it will be a “non-event” all right when no scouts show up to enroll. That’s what they wanted of course.
And when their coffers dry up...
Well, we’ve seen THAT movie before.
get your kids OUT of BSA NOW!
(there are alternatives)
It’s already happening.
There was a sob-story out of Tampa last week about how the local council is $75,000 in the hole due to a drop-off in donations.
Breaks my heart—NOT!
Bye-bye incandescent bulbs and the Boy Scouts on Jan.1!
I'm sure the "Man-Boy Camping Club" would have been a real hit.
I’ve thought that the idea of gay boy scouts doesn’t make sense. My view is that we’re talking about boys and young men, who are still growing and maturing. I will be called homophobic by some, but, I don’t see how young people can know for sure that they are gay at a young age.
And since scouting has nothing to do with sexuality anyway, I never thought this new policy made sense. It’s all about political correctness, it’s all about caving in to pressure groups who want to influence impressionable children.
If someone turns 18 and is an adult, and feels gay, they can head on down to The Castro and other such places and explore that to their hearts content. In my opinion, this subject has no place among children in the first place.
Beginning of the end for the BSA. Get in bed with the devil, and don’t be surprised when you get screwed. The homosexual-pedophile crowd has thoroughly infiltrated the scouts with the help and encouragement of the socialist democrats. Anyone who votes for the DNC are for pedophilia. Your children are NOT safe around anyone who votes democrat!
if you want your son to grow up to be pajama boy... keep him in the fag scouts
Since the infamous vote on this degeneration of the BSAs moral values earlier this year, our family will no longer support BSA in any way, shape of fashion.
Damn those people who did this to scouting to eternal fire
That program helped young men grow and mature for over 100 years and the as holes on the board of directors rolled over and gave it all away
Don’t worry.. I’m sure a gay Scoutmaster will convert one of the other boys
Make an emergency call to GLAAD and GLSEN so they can dispatch their teams to come in and re-orient this confused lad.
It’s not important whether they know for sure at that age if they’re gay or not. What matters to the gay mafia is that they’re unsure; gay counselors are poised to pounce on these normal teenagers and close the deal. That’s the whole point of the gay move into youth activities.
