A surgeon has been suspended after allegedly branding his initials into a transplant patient's liver.
Consultant Simon Bramhall, 48, is accused of burning 'SB' onto a patient's liver as he operated on him.
The letters were spotted by a colleague during routine surgery on the unnamed patient.
It is now feared the letters may have been imprinted onto hundreds of other transplant recipients.

That is just.............weird.
Any pics of the liver?
Heineken asked to sponsor my liver, but I declined.
Weird, true. Probably didn’t do any actual damage, so I fail to see logical reason for the outrage. I propose he be made to pay compensation to everybody he “autographed.”
Just an artist signing his work.
Anonymous surgical procedures are not respected, and there is always the chance of an infringement later. This way, the review of the procedure is provided with some kind of bookmark as to its efficacy.
Me too. After I switched to Ballantine Ale.
Shouldn’t this patient be grateful for the life saving procedure and at least send the surgeon a “Thank You Card” each year on the anniversary of his excellent werx every year?
It’s not like he branded his mailing address on it.
Though my sick mind thinks this patient would do well with a reminder of who to thank.
That’s sort what I told Heineken. I told them I only drink it in the morning.
I asked my surgeon if he signed my new knee before implanting it. He said “no”.
I'll just bet he was previously sued for malpractice and it was discovered that he didn't perform the surgery that he was being sued over. That's one was of not getting a repeat.
Strange, yet hilarious!
I did that....
....except it was initials on a stamper in a record factory.
hundreds perhaps thousands of my 21 years of age and not thinking initials went out impressed in the vinyl in the inner blank area by the label.
me and my friend got canned. I had put in my one week notice the week before and it was my last day.
no livers were harmed.....
Now that I think of it had the doctored required to brand his license number it coulduh come in real handy if this dwerp’s body were discovered one day and there was no I.D.
His family will feel so lucky knowing they are burying the right guy.
If it was Ted Kennedy’s liver, the surgeon would have needed a Dremel to engrave it.
At least he didn’t write, “Great with fava beans and a nice chianti!”.
“feared”....???
Ya, it’s stupid, but nothing medically to “fear”.....
Just so the practice doesn’t catch on with plastic surgeons. Yikes. Cute little brands saying, “Nose by Dr Stein” or “Boobs by Dr Bradley.”
While this sounds weird, it’s not as unusual as people may think. An OB here in Kentucky got in trouble for branding “UK” on a uterus during a hysterectomy. The truth is, many surgeons use similar techniques in order to maintain their orientation during surgery. Large operations where organs are being moved and manipulated can be disorienting which can easily lead to complications. Defining marks can help prevent this-though maybe using ones own Initials isn’t the best idea. No doubt though that the lawyers will have a field day though regardless.
