You likely hear it every day. And if it bugs you, youre not alone. The most annoying word in American conversation has been revealed: whatever.
And get this: its the fifth year in a row the nine-letter casual word has taken top ticked-off honors.
According to a Marist poll, 38 percent of Americans cant stand the word. Taking second-place honors is like with 22 percent, then you know with 18 percent followed by just sayin with 14 percent and obviously with 6 percent.
The 38 percent number is up six points from last year.

So I was noticing that too. It started out of no where about 6 months ago, and now everyone does it.
This nation's flounders object!
I hate it when people” axe” me a question.
What about these words uttered by a very well known individual...
“Uh, uh, I also want to thank, uh, uh, uh, the, uh, this, uh, well, uh, uh, eh —
uh, uh, uh, you know, uh, uh, uh, uhh, is...? Uh, is of — of their work, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, we, uh, uh, I called, uh, uh, and I’m — I’m — Uh, with, uh, uh, as, uh, that, uh, and uh, uh, um, uh”
“Awesome” bugs me too.
And more importantly, "liberal".
I can tell you the most misunderstood word in America.
Starts with an ‘n’
Has two ‘g’s in the midst
Ends in ‘ard’
Means “an excessively parsimonious, miserly, or stingy person.”
Has fooled the Admin Mods on this very site, who deleted a post containing said word, which is not racist in the least, unless you’re an easily offended Scotsman.
"It's working better..."
I have two:
“moving forward” and “optics”, although the latter is disappearing.
But what if you are liberal on gun laws? Isn’t that a good thing?
Raciss!
Oh here’s another:
“I’ll be honest with you.”
Hey a$$hole, if you aren’t honest to begin with, don’t waste my time—take a hike!
My most irritating word is “dude”. I was talking to a couple of teens when one slipped and addressed me as “dude”. I gave him a look to make his blood run cold and said: “You can call me ‘Robert’ or ‘Bob’ or ‘Mr. Smith’ or ‘Sir’ or even ‘Hey, you’, but don’t you ever call me ‘dude’. Do you understand me? Nod your head and say ‘Yes, sir’.”
Riiiiiiiiiiiight.
Its not the word its the subtle inference of it when used use....condescension
Amazing - I cant stand how overused this word is. Everyones amazing.
I think “amazing” is an awesome word. Just awesome in its awesomeness.
Right up there with "I'm a real Conservative!".
John Cornyn is spending millions saying just that.
I don’t have to endure those because I don’t listen to the face that utters them. I have never heard him say over 4 or 5 words before the remote has the channel changed.
That one word has replaced at least a dozen more precise ones. Due to its over- and misuse, I can't remember any of the words it superceded.
Thank you, lazy Millennials.
