A relative of the New Jersey attorney who died Sunday when thieves shot and carjacked him at a shopping mall says he wants the perpetrators to die for the "selfishness of their crime."
"What do I want? I want the punks responsible to pay," said Dr. Mark Schare, the uncle of Dustin Friedland. "I want them to die. I want them to get what they gave."
Schare's sharp-worded statement was aimed at assailants who approached Friedland, 30, and his wife, Jamie, in a parking garage Sunday night at Short Hills Mall, where the couple had been Christmas shopping. They shot Friedland, ordered his wife out of the couple's Range Rover and took off in the vehicle, according to The Associated Press.
Jamie Friedland was unharmed in the attack. The couple had recently purchased a home in nearby Hoboken and were both practicing attorneys.
'I don't want to hear about how difficult they had it growing up.'
Schare said he is not interested in hearing arguments for compassion for the killers.
"I don't want to hear about gun laws, that dilutes this atrocity," according to his statement. "I don't want to hear about how difficult they had it growing up, that dilutes the selfishness of their crime. And I don't want to hear how we need to show them compassion, that dilutes the fact that they committed MURDER.
"Murder that PERMANENTLY ended the life of my nephew, a sweet, soft, loving, giving, smart and talented Individual. Murder that has devastated my niece, made her a widow, and murder that has PERMANENTLY scarred my family," Schare added.
The stolen vehicle was found Monday in an alley in Newark, N.J., about 10 miles from the mall. Police are still searching for the assailants.

To bad the perps weren’t white. If they had been white, the news could have published a useful description of the men so the public could be made aware and help in their identification.
Sarc aside, I wonder to what degree murders are less likely to be solved if the perps are in fact “of color” because the media hushes it and the street culture has been trained to fear reporting them.

I do want to hear about the gun laws. I want to hear about a change from “May” issue to “Shall” issue concealed carry permits in NJ. I want to be packing when out and about
in this, my state. What people should do along the Rt 78 and 24 corridor is to barricade the exit ramps until the state allows the citizenry to arm and protect themselves from the barbarians that are just less than 30 minutes down the highway.
People wonder why I carry off-duty.
