Santa may bring me a Sig Sauer P226 if I'm good. I'm considering adding a new caliber to my handguns (which, sadly, were lost in a parasailing accident). I've test fired both the .357 Sig and the 40 S&W and am leaning toward the .357 Sig.
However, use would be a backup backup handgun for home defense and - let's admit it - for fun on the range.
I'm already set in .22LR, 9mm (including a P226 in 9mm), and .45ACP and am comfortable with what I already own in those calibers.
I know I can buy an extra P226 barrel for about $200 and enjoy both .357 Sig and 40 S&W calibers.
I'd appreciate any input comparing the .357 Sig and the .40 S&W.
Oh yea, thank you again for sharing that link.
Sorry, one more thing to mention regarding Keltec’s.
I just got Keltec Sub-2000 9mm a few months ago. It is pretty cool and fun to shoot!

I’m a Glock guy and most of my experience is with their product line. I have the .357Sig model with a .40S&W barrel and can definitely recommend having the option for shooting either caliber. When we had the massive ammo/gun shortage I was able to find .357Sig long after .40S&W was gone from the shelves. Buy a .357Sig and then convert, you can usually get the more obscure gun for less than the popular one as a lot of sellers don’t realize they are convertible and just want to get them out of their inventory.
I still have a perfectly good Sanyo Beta video recorder/player. I keep it because I have lots of good video of when the kids were real little. I know, I could convert it to DVD.
“If you reload, get the 40 S&W.”
Don’t try that with a Glock chambered for .40 S&W (see KaBoom).
(I realize the question concerned a P-226, but I thought that I’d throw that out there for other readers.)
I prefer the .50BMG. But I’ve not yet been able to find a comfortable IWB holster for my M2HB...
You are saying that you can’t reload a 40 S&W case if it is to be used in a Glock?
Glock’s feed ramps are such that more of the rear of the cartridge case is unsupported. Re-loaded .40 S&W rounds have shown a tendency to tear apart in that area. AFAIK, this is only a problem with Glocks.
A humorous comparison between 9mm .45 ACP and.40
The Pistol caliber wars are over.

(I carry all three calibers depending on weapon and weather)

Good idea.
5.56mm
That’s interesting. Thanks for the info.
Texas DPS uses the 357 Sig albeit they are going to 9mm soon according to rumor due the “cost” of the 357 Sig ammo. 125gr GDHP from Speer is the load they use...could be wrong.
I use 357 Sig as my carry caliber in many different launchers...Sig 226, 229 and a 239 and my Glock 31 and a Glock 35 I converted to 357 Sig with an aftermarket KKM barrel.
357 Sig is a great caliber with punch , power and packing for a high capacity magazine shy of my small Sig 239 pistol which is single stack.
Go with the 357 Sig caliber is my suggestion.
Wish you well in your journey to select the best for your needs....stay safe !!!
OK ... what’s your beef, specifically, with the SIG P226?
The 357 is sloppy unless you get one of the rare good ones.
OK ... have you observed problems with the P226 in general (it’s available in 9mm, .40, and .357SIG) or specifically with the .357SIG version?
My wife has one in 9mm that is excellent. I can write my name on the target with it.
LOL ... one of my shootin’ buddies has a threaded barrel 226 in 9mm ... full mag into one (big, ragged) hole, with or without the can.
I have a .40 cal 229 ... have considered getting a .357SIG barrel for it.
Yup, that would be my only reason as well. Availability of the ammo.
Take a .40 S&W casing and neck it down to .357 and you have the .357 Sig.
