On the day we went, the cable car was not running.

So we walked up the Roman Ramp!

There was another way up (The snake path), but the Roman Ramp seemed more...direct.

From below sea level to the top, straight up.

OK, I wasn’t going to mention this but my husband once spent an evening in O’Toole’s company. This was around 2001 or 2002. They went to a restaurant that was closing but they opened the bar for O’Toole. When he asked for something to eat, he was told the kitchen was closed. Mr. O’Toole politely asked if someone would send out for a Big Whopper? The waiters ran to the nearby Mickey D’s and brought back hamburgers and fries for both my husband and O’Toole. O’Toole was incredibly appreciative! According to my husband, he was an utter delight. Kind - and like all British actors - a wonderful storyteller.

RIP, Peter! You are sorely missed.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the iPhone I’m on. It doesn’t have, and cannot have Flash Player. A lot of videos require Flash. So I installed the YouTube app, and now most of the videos play. But once in a while I get that censorship warning. The app probably does that.

That I was allowed to see - after all, it was sort of an anti-Commie movie!

As long as my knees could take it, I would go up that route.

The opening of Masada is what I remember best with the (then) modern Israeli soldiers going up to Masada.

Peter Strauss was also really good too.

He wrote an autobiography, I remember, which was well received. No ghost writers. (Two volumes?)

Ahhhhh. that makes sense.

The scene is from Lawrence of Arabia, and he is riding his motorcycle, and loses control and fatally crashes.

The scene is shot from the viewpoint of Lawrence, and one can see the handlebars quiver just as he loses control of the bike. I have seen that quiver, and it is very difficult to regain control once that happens.

Once it happened when my front forks were hit by a small Florida style tornado. Rather than attempting to control the bike, I leaped off, just before the thing spun on its gear shift lever like a food processor.

For years it was my all-time favorite.

Bit of trivia...the music for Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Zhivago were both written by Maurice Jarre.

Dad had both soundtracks on LP.

Rod Steiger (As Viktor Komerovsky) was the totally hissable villian, and he played it perfectly!

LOVED Rod Steiger in that. Don’t think I’ve seen him in too many movies, but really enjoyed his acting in that. Played so well.

He was SO wicked.

Even more wicked than Strelnikov, who at least believed in his cause.

Komorosky was a total opportunist.
