And it was one of John Boner’s buddies, Fred Upton, who GAVE us this ban, signed by the other Progressive douchebag, George W. Bush.
A good Aladdin Lamp is wonderful light to read by. And it gives off heat too.
I sold them for a hardware distributor for years. Now they are so pricey they really hurt to buy. But if you have a mountain cabin with no electricity, they are nice.
I bought an LED bulb out of curiosity the other day and am pretty impressed with it too. I’d say it’s right on par with an incandescent in terms of the quality of its light, and it has none of the nasty characteristics of a CFL. Something else is that its globe is plastic, not glass, which means it won’t shatter if dropped. It was expensive but if it lasts the 15 years claimed on the box then it will pay for itself, plus save me the hassle of replacing it during that time. I think the lighting industry has come through for us with a good alternative to incandescents. At this point I don’t see a good reason for CFLs to exist, especially if LEDs keep coming down in price.
I have outdoor lighting which I believe are necessary as a safety measure. I have put in the highest output compact fluorescent floodlights I can buy. However, I am not happy with the results. They just do not do the job my incandescent bulbs have been doing over the years. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the light output of a 150W outdoor floodlight?
Another matter that is frustrating: These CFLs throw out lots of radio interference. These things act like radio jamming devices for my AM radio stations. Anyone have any suggestions about that problem?
So far I’ve only used CFC lamps in a couple of stairways - turned on and off only when negotiating stairs. I’ve replaced them both twice over the last 5 years. I don’t know if the CFCs are defective, if there a problem with the electric circuits or maybe they just like to be left on longer...or what? Why don’t they last longer?
I’m glad to hear the positive comments about the LCD lamps. Gotta try them next
I have a problem with the CFBs in that the dimmers in our ceiling fans allow them to only work on high so the dimmer is worthless.
Are there version that work with dimmers?
The LEDS are incredibly expensive. Typical do gooder law that does no one any good except for China.
Walmart still sells your 150 Watt Incandescent flood lamps.
I agree. It’s the principle of the thing that’s irksome, even if the LEDs turn out to be a good alternative. At least we’re not being forced into those lousy CFLs.
Even Home Depot: http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Saf-T-Gard-150-Watt-Incandescent-PAR38-Flood-Light-Bulb-150PAR-FL-STGPQ6/100493803#
ROTFLMAO !
yeah but with an LED bulb you can keep yer beer cold.....
I am well qualified of Aladdin lamps... we had a caboose at the railroad I used to work at and it was equipped with Aladdin kerosene lamps. The mantles came in boxes and were pre-tied to a metal frame... I recall a warning about the mantles containing thorium or some radioactive element... We had a whole case of those mantles.... probably banned in the 1970’s.
A few weeks back I was visiting a friend in the Colorado Rockies that lives in an 1897 prospector’s cabin... off the grid. She had propane on site and the house was set up with Humphrey propane lamps... she was using coleman mantles, and I noted no radioactive element warning on the packaging.
Full spectrum lights are available in the CFLs. However, try to find them in the 23W—100W equivalent. I went to Fred Meyer’s, Lowe’s, Walmart and Home Depot looking for them. Fred Meyer’s had them in individual packets, but wanted $4 for them. Lowe’s had them in 4-packs and wanted $8.44 for them. Walmart had a 4-pack but the only pack they had left had broken bulbs inside. Finally, Home Depot had a 4-pack at $1.67! Wow! Full spectrum, 5000K! Those were the ticket!
I was stocking up on incandescents for the last several years then I found LEDs, switched the whole house over. Now I have a closet full of buggy whips I’ll never use.
I remember friends in the Army years ago that brought back their light bulbs from Germany with them. I asked why and they said the bulbs worked great in 110 volt outlets even though they were made for Europe’s 220 volt system. They easily last 30 years or longer in the states.
EcoSmart 120W Equivalent Daylight (5000K) R40 CFL Flood Light Bulb
These would be good if they were a full 150 watts and didn't diffuse the light so much. The incandescents have a clear glass lens that projects the light out into the yard much better.
Kobi Electric LED 15-Watt (75-Watt) A19 Warm White Light
I'm installing them as bulbs burn out. It feels good to know it's the last time I'll change the bulb (at least at my age!).
But I still have a stash of 60 watt incandescents! (LOL!)
Thank you republican party for killing the incandescent light bulb.
The Chinese CFL industry appreciates your contribution.
walking around in the dark... exactly the way the left likes its sheep...
I love the LED spots, boy are they bright and I don't have to worry about the halogen heat in the recessed fixtures, LED spots run cooler than cool.
For years I’ve heard that light bulbs comprise only a very small percentage of our electric bill, and that most electricity is used by heating and air conditioning systems, and appliances - washer, dryer, oven, refrigerator). So why the big push on these light bulbs?
