A friend of mine who lives in Chinatown in Los Angeles has a travel poster of a crowded beach—and I believe it’s in Shenzhen. His family is from a rural area near Canton.

Mea Culpa, then. Chinaboy, a little get reacquainted introduction would be nice, but it's my fault for not checking your profile.

So do you have a message for America?

Hey, FRiends. Check out ChinaBoy's post on June 17, 2008 ("
Come and chat") and the 223 responses. Compare it to today's thread started by the same gentleman. You'll notice what a civil place was in 2008 and how people genuinely wanted to be friends with him. Today, many of the responses are hostile and some are downright ugly. Not nice, people.

I can’t post my pic. So sad
To: chinaboy
We can’t see it, either.
So, what kind of diet are you eating being on the beach now?
Any recommendations? You look very slim. Are you mostly on fish and shellfish?

I just read through, there were quite a few cynical posts the first time as well. Not really all that different.

Chinaboy's first post was on 12 May 2008 on a thread about the Great Sichuan Earthquake, which occurred that day:
THANK YOU.Most Americans are nice! YES,I AGREE WITH YOU.WE CHINESE ARE FREE NOW,BUT THANKS ALL THE SAME.
The earthquake left 69,180 known dead plus 18,498 missing.

If you say it wasn’t the “pesky oil embargo”, would you be kind enough to tell us how the USA provoked the Japanese into killing thousands of our men on 12/7/1941?
Not trying to be a smartass. I really am curious as to your views on this.

Hello chinaboy. I’ve traveled in the past to where you live. I enjoyed my visit there and hope to return someday. Are you still doing art or is life too busy for you?
