A viral video showing an individual “casting a fire ant colony with molten aluminum” stirred controversy on the Internet this week.

The video, originally uploaded in November, but only gained widespread attention on Dec. 9, shows an individual pour molten aluminum down an ant hill.

The result? An aluminum casting of the ant colony weighing nearly 18 pounds.

But, the artist seems to have come under fire from critics who argue the process is barbaric.

“I disabled comments because I’m sick of your bickering,” the individual wrote in the video’s YouTube description. “Also, I couldn’t get YouTube to stop sending me an email every time someone posted ‘What if I poured aluminum in your house’ for the 100th time.”

At the time of publication, the video had just over 3 million views

I watched the video and found it fascinating and awesome. We spend like 150.00 a year on fire ant killer. The idiots whining about it are absolute lunatics. Fire ants are Satan’s pets.

I have poured gasoline on them, waited a few minutes then threw a match.......The size of the ring made by the internal explosion is quite impressive. Kills the grass, though.

My mother came to visit us in south Florida many years ago...she was from the Northeast...

She was bite by a fire ant between her toes and she could not believe a tiny little ant actually could inflict so much pain

She insisted it had to be some "foreign exotic insect"that did it...

She wanted me to take her to the hospital thinking she was poisoned by said "foreign exotic insect"...

Needless to say, she alway swore closed shoes since then...

I would think melted aluminum would be more expensive than gasoline. They both make quite a show. But digging the hole would be a hassle.

There's a mathematical expression that clearly shows how pouring aluminum on the uploaders home is not the same as doing so to an ant colony. It goes like this:

People > Dogs > Cats > Mice > Roaches > Fire Ants > Nothing
