Of course, they cited the “57” age since that was how old Ian Fleming was when he died.

Can’t wait till they go full PC on the character and have him become a bisexual crack/meth toker.

“what is it with europeans and bad teeth?...............”

When you start the nicotine addiction (smoking) at birth, it ruins one’s teeth, amongst everything else.

Churchill probably drank 40 times the limit, and he lived to 90.

If you're a fan of Churchill and like reading biographies written to show you the protangonist's place within the rest of what's going on in the world during that time (and you don't mind taking on a challenge, i.e., LONG trilogy), may I recommend "The Last Lion: Winston Spencer Churchill"? You can get them in either book or Kindle format. They are amazing. I learned SO much detail not only about Churchill, but about European and world history. Manchester did an incredible job of not only chronicling Churchill's life, but of detailing and explaining the world he lived in.

Lincoln died at 56, and he was not known for boozing.

Franklin Pierce and Ulysses Grant were Presidents with a reputation for drinking too much--Pierce lived to 64 and Grant to 63.

Lincoln could have added 7 years to his life if he had stayed home and gotten bombed on April 14, 1865, instead of going to the theater and getting blasted.

Also, if you haven’t seen “The Gathering Storm”, with Albert Finney as Churchill, it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen, period.

IIRC correctly after someone complained to Lincoln that Grant was a lush, Lincoln responded by saying that he would send a case of whatever Grant was having to his other generals.

Pierce was plastered for pretty much his entire Presidency. It was largely due to grief after watching his last surviving child killed in front of his eyes right after he won the election. More of a pitiable figure than anything else.

More Hollywood magic:

Are people clamoring for this?

Ed Helms ? Hell, this is a perfect vehicle for Joe Biden. They can even spring O.J. from the can to co-star.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Biden would be a better choice! Sure bet the OJ would be up for it.

Wow. The creativity in Hollywood has gone the way of the dodo bird and sea cow - extinct. Gimme a frigging break.

That’s the traditional story of what Lincoln supposedly said. It seems to me I heard some scholar on C-SPAN recently saying Lincoln didn’t really say it but someone later reported it to Lincoln and he thought it was a good one (the kind of thing he would have said if he had thought of it).

I was thinking of the movies produced by Albert R. Broccoli, which are what most people think of when they think of a ‘James Bond’ movie.

Broccolis do not own the right to exclude other bond flicks as they do when the count their own movies as “official” and number them. When you exclude a bond movie starring Connery then your own definition Is meaningless.

Words have meanings.

Bond did not really shows signs of excessive drinking in the novels until Goldfinger. We get his physical results in the beginning of Thunderball and we learn he drinks about a half bottle of 60 to 70 proof liquor a day and he drinks due to depression in You Only Live Twice. Remember YOLT was after On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

I would not characterize his drinking as alcoholism. He doesn’t seem to have a problem while working.

Fleming was limited by his doctor to one drink a day and he would get the strongest he could find. He also smoked 70 cigarettes a day.
