He Said, She Said: Dating Habits of Silicon Valley Millionaires
SF Weekly ^ | Mon., Dec. 9 2013 | Jonathan Ramos

Have no shame, gold diggers! Eligible millionaires in Silicon Valley love you just the way you are.

A recent study from MillionaireMatch.com found that millionaire men in Silicon Valley, 82.6 percent to be exact, are most likely to seek out non-millionaire women. And get this, only 16.2 percent would insist on a prenuptial agreement.

Millionaire women, however, are quite the opposite and 86.7 percent of them prefer to date other millionaires. And 92.4 percent insist on the union between prenups and dry ink.

According to the study, a random sample of 524 millionaires in the area, there's plenty of "new money" to be found in Silicon Valley between the ages of 29 and 40.

Darren Shuster, marketing manager for Matchamaker.com, has a theory: wealthy men "want to share their wealth with the less fortunate."

Apparently to marry a non-millionaire means to be charitable. The more popular responses from men polled had to do with dating "somebody who appreciates things" and not dating "bossy, middle-aged women who can take care of themselves."

In the on-going battle of the sexists, that's one point for the fellas.

For women it's a matter of "not carrying the whole financial burden," according to a female member worth $100 million. (What financial burden is she referring to when one member of the couple is worth $100 million?) Must be tough when one decides love does cost a thing.

Unfortunately prenups are a necessity in today’s world. You have no idea if someone’s personality is going to change and they’ve been playing you all that time, to then become a person that’s unliveable with, just to get half your stuff.

I think it’s protection against it and if you never have to use it, count yourself lucky and thank God for a truly good spouse.

Millionaire men are more trusting than millionaire women. I suspect the reason is that millionaire women tend to project their negative traits onto others.

Incoming!

Another data point for the massive amount of evidence Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit collects regarding women practicing hypergamy.

In the words of AC/DC

Not surprising.

As a become financially very successful, I was suddenly sexy.

Women value money more than most things.

Not my world, hopefully not my children's.

This article reminds me of the Baroness’ line from The Sound of Music (movie). “I must have a man who needs me, or at least needs my money.”

Many of these Silicon geeks could not get a date without money. I think there was a study done in some women’s magazine that ranked the “sexiness” of men and their professions. The military and construction workers were high on the list. Accountants and computer programmers were on the bottom. No doubt money changes that perception for many women.

Men go for looks, women for resources/accomplishments.

Makes a lot of sense in that hypogamy puts women in the uncomfortable situation whereby the greater their success, the more diminishing it somehow is or feels to a husband of lesser success.

Let alone, of course, women’s relative need for a provider spouse if she’s going to raise children.

The high interest in prenups from female millionaires is interesting, and IMO could be explained by small sample size and/or their planning to mate with rich men, who presumably would have a mutual interest in such an arrangement.

Money is a major factor in sexiness, for women, at least.

A few thoughts:
1. Men don’t care how much money a woman has but only how hot she looks, and most women that are millionaires are not that hot.
2. Prenuptials are not worth the paper they are printed on, if you’re a man the family courts will financially rape you no matter what legal hoops you’ve jumped through to protect yourself. Still worth a try but don’t count on it working.
3. Most of these Silicon Valley Millionaires are nerds that made it big (like the CEO of Facebook) and have no real experience with women and so will most likely get taken to the cleaners by the gold diggers trolling for them.
4. For women status matters so no surprise that they do not want to “marry down” no matter how hot the guy is. For these women a life with many cats is in thier future.

Let’s face it. Women who have the drive to become millionaire’s, for the most part, are unnattractive. They know what is going on.

I think that is especially true of older woman.

Many younger women still have this “bad boy” phase they have to go through. Many of these bad boys have little to no money at all.
