Not to hijack the thread, but didn’t Rush Limbaugh have a show where he said Asberger’s is a made-up pop psychology illness?
Did he? I don’t remember that. A lot of people from his generation grew up with people who had asperger’s but they just called them nerds or one bubble off plumb, and accepted that there were “people like that,” socially off but bright and techy. I think that might be what he means, that it is a made up dx. Meaning that people used to have it but weren’t given a dx.
Since there is basically an epidemic of autism spectrum disorders now, I hope he’s changed his mind and realizes that giving the label HELPS. It helps the child get the space he needs from people, the respect that he is still a bright person (not mentally ill, not dumb), and it helps the parents know that it is not their (or the child’s) fault that he doesn’t do what they want. These kids are super inflexible, and not getting a dx that something is wrong with their brains and they need more understanding, may have meant in Rush’s childhood that the kids were abused by their parents, punished for things they couldn’t help.
I have OCD.
I count everything, all the time.
I remember how many beeps signify that the microwave is done...and the tone of the beeps... for every microwave I have ever had. And I remember lots of other useless crap.
I had a boss whose wife said unequivocally that he had this syndrome. It was a living hell for every employee.
I remember telephone numbers by the tone of each numeral and can “replay” every telephone number I’ve personnally ever had by sounding them out. How’s that for useless, lol?

You remember them as though they were a little tune played using the touch-tone pad.
That is similar to the way I copy morse code. Complete words have a sound that is like a little tune.
i.e. Hi is dit dit dit dit_ dit dit. That word, “Hi”, sent twice or more is how amateur radio guys signify laughter on the air...much like “lol” is used on the web.
Actually, each telephone touch-tone sound is a chord made up of two frequencies played at the same time. The reason for two tones is to eliminate the possibility that normal sounds like a whistle might register as a touch tone.
So my daughter does have a brain injury. She acts a lot like Asperger kids.
I think the main way to tell is through an MRI.
I don’t think anyone can diagnose.
It’s good to know the difference because treatment is different.

Aspberger’s and Austism used to be called simply a condition of underdevelopment of the right side of the brain. I bet your daughter has a right brain injury. The symptoms are similar to aspbergers.
Furthermore, I met a MIT grad who said most of the engineering students were aspys and left handed.I always thought this was interesting. He exhibited many difficulties with social interaction and human emotions.
My beautiful 22 yr old granddaughter has it. Won’t admit it.
Not a surprise at all. Something was clearly wrong with her. I thought it was some kind of severe fear of being in public, but asperger’s sounds about right.
I think we all knew it...just couldn’t quite figure it out because we had little info. No matter. A lovely woman.
