I like Amaretto with cream, with cocoa, and in cheesecake. I like Malibu Rum straight and to marinate chicken and then bake with a brown sugar and pecan crust. A diabetic coma just waiting to happen. Whee!

ALL SMOKE ALARMS ARE NOT EQUAL

So, here I am without ANY smoke detectors in the house since engineer Roy dumped them.

Have I got a deal for you!

Walmart - “Kidde Long Life Sealed Battery Smoke Alarm” $17.07

“There is no threat of your smoke alarm failing when you use this Kidde Smoke Alarm. It is a lithium battery operated, 10-Year Sealed alarm. Because of the lithium battery power, this sealed battery smoke alarm will last the lifetime of the unit. You won't have to worry about maintenance, saving you time and stress.”

What a great invention. I put them up and the battery lasts 10 years. No more wondering if the battery is dead and so am I if a fire starts.

Kidde makes a zillion smoke detectors so if you want the long life battery one, be sure it says “Long Life” in the title.

Just had to tell all of you about this smoke detector so you would know there is one which doesn't require you to keep feeding it 9 volt batteries.

Feral pig tastes just fine if you don't get an old 250 lb boar. AND provided you handle the meat correctly.

When friends/family kill a feral and want to bring it to me, I ask that they only empty the vicera from the body cavity. I will do everything else.

The hand that touches the hide should never touch the meat, and 2 buckets, one with soapy water, and one with clear water are required to process the carcass without spoiling it.

I figured there was more to it when there were differing opinions. The one thing that seems to be universally inedible is prairie dog.

This last Friday's garden thread. There will be a new one tomorrow, Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

All things plant related, home-made stuff of all kinds, recipes, you name it, we discuss it.

Re: feral tobacco...
A type of mullien grows as a weed in NC and we called it wild tobacco. But none of us smoked it...We grew 60 acres of flue-cured tobacco. Come to think of it, we didn’t smoke the flue-cured either.

GreenhouseMegaStore has good prices on their products. Unfortunately they want to ship FedEx so the shipping charges are a killer.

I can’t remember if what I ordered came UPS or fedex, to be honest. IIRC it was UPS. But it was some very light seed starting trays.

Twelve Panterra Pots, each 12 inches in diameter was $7.99 shipping and got here in two or three days. I didn’t think the shipping was excessive.

Big pots and a number of them are going to weigh more so will cost more in shipping than a number that weighs less. How far you are from that store also makes a difference in cost of shipping. They are in Illinois.

My post office loses packages for me all the time. It is not acceptable and a hassle every time but UPS and Fed Ex gets the packages to me. I prefer UPS over Fed Ex.

Have you found your big pots yet? I wonder if 5 gallon paint buckets would work for some of the bigger stuff? I loaded up on used 5 gallon buckets (free) from a construction company. But you can find new empties in the paint department of a big box hardware store. You just have to drill holes in the bottom so the soil won’t sour. jrandom had an excellent idea to fill the bottom with cheap stuff.

And another thing - they don’t have a store in Texas so I don’t have to pay any sales tax and that is a very good thing.

Yes, I got pots from the Megastore for potatoes that are 18 inches tall and 14 inches in diameter. Just what I need for potatoes.

Ooops, Ma’am. I posted my redneck 5 gallon bucket thoughts before I was halfway finished reading the thread. This is the first garden thread I have read BTW. I have ordered LOTs of stuff from greenhousemegastore (I am a commercial grower)...Just the first time I did business with them, the shipping charges shocked me. But as you suggested, the fedex truck had to drive a few more miles to get to my place.
And on this thread I learned that you are 80 years young, I admire what you are doing and gardening will keep you young. Happy Gardening!

“universally inedible is prairie dog”
Have you tried beaver? I mean builds-dams-in-a-pond-beaver? The meat is tar black and tastes like wood shavings.

No sale tax? Is the income tax or the property tax on the high side?
