Ever wish you had an easy way to begin "going galt". This may be your big chance. Much too far from what I can afford, but perhaps if a few FReepers or friends thereof can get together with some manner of agreement -here is your big chance, mates! Yes, it's in California, but it is so far from the looney liberal SF Bay Area that it is almost its own separate state for all intents and purposes. If you ever needed an excuse to actually get away from it all, a quiet new place to stay is up for sale.

Sounds like the issue is the road. The real cost is Road construction + $225,000 for the town + repairs for safety.

Better to spend your $225k somewhere else.

Just how big is this town? I may have overlooked it but I didn’t see anything about acreage.

I love it.

I also like the locals’ names, Tim TenBrink and Jerry Manpearl.

‘Over the time of his ownership, Tim TenBrink, 67, said the bar would regularly cater to more than a dozen miners at any given time during the day. TenBrink and his buddy Jerry Manpearl purchased the bar in 1975 after being served about 20 drinks from beloved barmaid Marie Sabin. TenBrink said within a couple years the $50,000 price tag was nearly covered due to the fact the miners “would drink like fish.”

It would be nice if someone could come in there and preserve the history of the place. But what will probably happen is that someone with lots of money will come in, bulldoze everything and make some kind of personal hideaway or retreat.

Shameful to employ minors and pay them ten cents a day in rice; no wonder....

Oh, wait a minute.

Never mind.

Right, then. My lift to the store is on the way, so I'm off to get supplies for the next several days. It is still below-freezing and we have snow on the way so I need to get this done soonest. I will be back on for a bit later on this afternoon for any further question posted, but then I'm off to the homestead this evening to begin preparing.

Cheers!

Please forgive Me if I do not respond right away to immediate postings. Our annual "Light Parade" is now going through downtown which means the streets are currently impassable whilst they traverse up and back the two main streets past the residences and business section with their huge collection of Christmas-Lights-Bedecked Large Vehicles slowly passing by so pictures can be taken.

I think My ride is going to be late...

Oh, and I should add:

42oz at 1500/oz = 63,000 dollars in todays prices.

1600/oz = over 67,000 dollars -the price of gold nowadays varies quite a bit, but you get the picture.
