I have heard over and over how great he was; but what did he DO?
All this rambling about him as an "icon" is frothy and full of adulation, but I have YET to hear how he CONCRETELY made anyone's life better.
I guess he helped institute a better voting process and government in South Africa....but REALLY could he have done it without de Klerk's support? And what was his RECORD as a chief executive?
The media keeps talking about how he was SA's first black President. Big whoop.
Clint Eastwood made a movie about how he helped some soccer team...
But his actual RECORD....did he create jobs? Did he save lives? Did he lower taxes, create wealth?
Lots of SIZZLE out there about him, but is there any STEAK?
Frrrrreeeeeeee Nelson Mandela. Freeeeeeeee Nelson Mandela.
With the purchase of a large fries and a large soft drink!
I’m gonna burn for that one...
It’s going to be JFK week all over again...
But he did accomplish a great thing. He kept South Africa from becoming another Zimbabwe, which easily could have happened. Zim had one of the most prosperous economies in Africa and a talented white minority. The black revolutionaries were willing to throw it all away just for spite. Mandela rose above that. We don't know if it will work in the long term, but he gave South Africa a chance.
Given his age, they probably had all kinds of things all ready for when he kicked the bucket. Most weekends are slow news days (even if a lot happens), just because the weekend staff are off.
“I have heard over and over how great he was; but what did he DO?”
Sounds like someone zero could look up to.
What did he do? He was black, that’s what he do. They are so desperate to come up with black heroes, they invented one, and used Mandela as the proxy.
He did transition South Africa to majority rule without resulting in mass reprisals and rivers running red with blood. A truly rare feat in Africa.
Get elected and fill your family/friends/self pockets with as much cash as possible and retire, Obama is following right in his foot steps
Radio newscast had a Man In The Street interview with some bloke who said he was “totally shocked” that Mandela had died.
uhhhh.....he was 95 years old, and had spent 30 out of the last 36 months in a hospital. What shocked you exactly?
I agree, and mentioned that....but didn’t he mightily rely on de Klerk to accomplish that? It WAS a team effort.
Rush Limbaugh mentioned Mandela was very adamant about following his nation’s constitution....I don’t know if he was being sarcastic.
Ask the people of SA black and white if their lives are better.
SA is a hell whole
Yes. Liberals loved him because he was a communist who hated white people and consorted with terrorists.
They’re remarkably similar in spirit.
If he wasn’t black, nobody would have paid any attention to him.
God only knows how many innocent women and children mandela killed. He is a commie pig good riddance.
His wife was an unchained serial killer. A little sizzle there with the steak, no doubt.
He was a Tireless worker for social justice.
Are you talking about Mandela or Obama?
