Going into it, I already figured Hollywood would f*** up “Red Dawn” as a remake, so I was a little biased towards it ahead of time.
But actually, I didn’t think it was all that bad.
The original though was excellent. Open season on the commie bastards, and the local democrat mayor who collaborated was a nice touch... Well done.
And here’s an aside: Even though they’re not from the time period specified... Last night on Turner Classic, they showed “Little Ceaser” “The Public Enemy”, “White Heat”, and “The Roaring Twenties” back to back. Great old time gangster flicks.
I enjoy watching those when they’re on. “Key Largo” was on late, so I didn’t get to see it, but it’s on again later this week, earlier.
“The Big Heat” with Lee Marvin and Glen Ford was also on; Marvin actually had black HAIR, and LOT of it!!! Haha!! (Used to seeing him in ‘The Dirty Dozen” with the salt-n-pepper high and tight...)
Cagney, Bogart, Edward G. Robinson... nobody goes gangster like those guys did!!!

I remember as a kid, the original black and white scared the hell out of me. LOVED it.
When John Carpenter remade it in 1982, I thought it was THE horror/sci-fi movie of all time (”Aliens” from 1985 and “Predator” from 1987 runs a close second and third to me).
2011 they made the PRE-quel to “The Thing” - this one takes place at the Norwegian ice station, and it absolutely hell on Earth. I thought it was crebibly redone and enjoyed it. It ENDS right where the 1982 version begins - with the Norwegians in the helicopter chasing the dog. Almost seamlessly done.
As for remakes... how about multiple versions of “A Christmas Carol”... my favorite is the George C. Scott version from 1974 (??) time frame. He was great as Scrooge...
Although Michael Caine was good in the Muppets version (yeah, I love that one... so did my kids...)

I loved that movie. The insects in the pit were particularly horrifying. What I didn’t like were the firearms special effects; the Thompsons sounded like cap guns. And shooting the giant cricket off the guy’s face at close range - with a THOMPSON.... I dunno...
But overall it was a cool remake.
RE “The Fly” Jeff Goldblum played that well... progressively more deranged as the insect took over. Although, in the original, David Hedison’s face on the fly caught in the spider web as the spider came towards him was terrifying and gave me night mares as a kid.
RE “Scarface” - I didn’t know that was a remake...wasn’t the original about Al Capone???
Loved the original version of KK a groundbreaking movie all others sucked..
The fly was excellent..
Loved all Dracula and Frankenstein movies when i was a kid..
Scarface in a class of it’s own.

My kids are watching kids xmas cartoons and Boris Karloff is the voice,scared the shit out of me..

The original King Kong special effects were done by Willis Obrien, and he was the guy who trained Ray Harryhausen, I believe the whole Stop Action animation. Stunning visual effects for it’s day. And Fay Wray was a beauty!!!
I liked the Peter Jackson version for the special effects. Made the monsters come to life.
RE Dracula: Did you like the Hammer Studios flicks with Christopher Lee as the Count, and Peter Cushing as Van Helsing? I loved those!
And speaking of Van Helsing: I got a kick out of THAT flick from a few years back, with Hugh Jacman playing Van Helsing. The vampire babes were smoking hot, as was Kate Beckinsale...
I’ve seen it a dozen or so times, because it is often the only thing on cable when I travel. I bet you are slavering for the remake. LOL
I watched KK again and it came with a special features on the DVD ,stunning and groundbreaking the things they did for the special effects...
What about KK 1976 it sucked but you got to see a young Jessica Langes tits.
Grew up watching hammer movies every friday night on TV.
Last night i put on some Grinch cartoon for the kids and the voiceover was done by Boris Karloff sent shivers down my spine, grew up on the Frankenstein movies as well..
