Spider-Man Balloon Punctured at Thanksgiving Day Parade

(NEW YORK) -- Usually Spider-Man is the one spinning a web, but on Thursday the superhero was the one who ended up getting snared.

The Spider-Man balloon, measuring nearly 30-feet tall and 78-feet long, had part of its left arm torn when it hit a branch during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Balloon handlers held tight to their balloons, which were threatened by winds of up to 26 mph during the annual parade.

The New York Police Department had considered grounding the balloons, a popular draw at the annual parade, but instead ordered them to fly 5 feet lower than their maximum height as they made their way past New York’s Central Park.

Although his spidey senses were presumably a bit rattled after the tree branch incident, Spider-Man continued in the parade, which culminated outside Macy’s in Herald Square.

Well, if anyone missed it, this is what it looked like in 1990 or possibly 1991.

No condoms were damaged creating the balloons, or during the parade.

In 25 mile per hour winds, Spiderman takes the subway rather than swinging between buildings on his webs after that one unfortunate incident. Some of the other superheroes still hum the "George of the Jungle" theme song around him.

It’s never a complete Macy’s parade without a balloon malfunction.

I thought the ballons were going to be grounded if there were going to be high winds.
