Belfast? Belfast has a handful of murders a year at most. With a population of half a million. One of the safest cities in the world. It’s not 1972 anymore you know.

I live in Jakarta, Indonesia. It is a rambling, shambling conurbation with a population of 12 million. There is desperate poverty in some parts and if you looked at it you’d think it was a seething urban nightmare of chaos and crime. Actually it’s remarkably crime free.

In the ten years I have lived here, wandering around some dodgy areas late at night with my big red Irish face telling the world I have probably had a few too many drinks I have never met with anything other than a broad grin and a “hello mister!”. The worst crime I suffered was when I had my wallet stolen on a bus but it was handed back to me by a fellow passenger who had seen the thief and made him hand it over.

If I am not mistaken the murder rate was something in the region of 80 per year, out of 12 million people.

Asian people are generally law-abiding (well except for the endemic corruption of course).

“”Note that this list is ranked by the RATIO of murders per population”

You’ve hit on the solution. Large cities need to annex affluent and safe suburbs. This is exactly the same type of method that reduced the unemployment rate below 8%.

From the way a-holes like Piers Morgan talk, with the vast number of guns in the hands of ordinary citizens, you would think that American cities would top the list.

I wouldn't guess Acapulco being 2nd, ahead of Juarez or Tijuana (unless those are considered war zones). Northern Mexico cities don't shock me. Honduras doesn't shock me in the least, nor does Caracus, Columbia, or Guatemala.

New Orleans and Detroit are what they've been for years.

Detroit’s not the highest in the state if you include cities with less than 150,000 people. Flint and Saginaw have them beat.

Belfast has cleaned up since the Troubles died down. Almost all the homicides there were between UVA/UDA/pIRA types.

The top ten seem to concentrate in Columbia, Venezuela, Mexico and Honduras.

Those states may have Republican Governors, but I don’t think they’ve had Republican Governors for that long. And the CITIES that are mentioned have been solidly in the hands of Democrats for years, so they’ve had problems all along.

Your statistical chances of leaving Brazil unscathed are excellent based on the figures. :)

Ahhh... but Mexico is coming to America... just look at what’s happening South of the border.

The MS-13 is Salvadoran. Before the US pushed the “peace process” on El Salvador it had a Guardia Nacional and a Policia de Hacienda that kept gangs (maras) from getting too organized. The GN and the PH were too small to keep the guerrillas in check once they established logistics through Nicaragua and were getting all manner of international help.

We forced El Salvador to get rid of its National Police and its less-corrupt and more effective Guardia and PH. They were replaced by the new “civilian” police that accepted former guerrillas. Then instead of having some teen gangs like the Mara Chancleta and the Mara Gallo they had the giant international MS-13.

The Guttmacher Institute revealed in a recent study that Black women account for 30 percent of all abortions
and African Americans make up only 13 percent of the total U.S. population.
