These would be perfect scattered around a Buche de Noel.

ACORN TREATS

Attach mini vanilla wafer or mini nutterbutters to chocolate kiss w/ icing---pipe on frosting stem.

I love it, Liz! I hate to say it but Sara Semi-homemade came up with mushroom made from a tiny marshmallow attached to a Hershey kiss dusted with white confectioner’s sugar. This, though, is just as easy.

I just bought a Sarah Lee to try again this weekend. Wish me luck on the triangle cake!

Poor man; not particularly a fan (although I adore his father) and wish him well.

Liz: what’s your Thanksgiving menu?

By the way, if I don’t write to you again, Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. You’re one of my favorite freepers!

Wish me luck on the triangle cake!

I have a hard time wrapping my head around the triangle cake, too..Is the pound cake just plain, no icing, no nothing, and then after you slice it on the diagonal, you ice it?

Or do you slice it horizontally, ice it, put it back together, then slice it on the diagonal? My only familiarity with pound cake is one I made that had thirteen eggs in it.

You slice it on the diagonal after you frost the layers (obviously you don’t frost the top until after you cut it otherwise you’ll end up with sticky fingers). You don’t cut it in regular slices. You cut it on the long side. You’ll end up with about four slices.

A good "edible baking glue" is white sugar melted in a skillet--- careful its very hot.

I've used this for gingerbread houses.

For the "acorns" quickly dip the cookie into the melted sugar using tongs....then attach the kiss.

A thin pretzel stick piece would make a good "stem."

Not cooking this year——most popular past years menu included:

French potato tart (sliced spuds w/ sour cream and cheese layers) in a fluted gratin dish,

my famous broccoli in three-cheeses sauce,

sliced mushrooms in sherry cream sauce,

buttered brussels sprouts w/ roasted chestnuts,

roasted sliced sweet potatoes (I detest marshmallows),

jellied cranberry stars,

sausage/bread-stuffed turkey garnished w/ sugar-glazed bunches of grapes.

Liz, did I see where you just melt plain sugar as the “glue” for these “acorns”?
