The town of San Rafael, Calif., has passed a ban on smoking that city officials have called the most stringent in the nation. The new ordinance makes it illegal for residents to smoke in their own homes if they share a wall with another dwelling. The ban applies to owners and renters alike, and it covers condominiums, co-ops, apartments and any multi-family residence containing three or more units.
Rebecca Woodbury, an analyst at the San Rafael City Manager's office, helped craft the ban, which took effect Nov.14. "We based it on a county ordinance," she told ABC News, "but we modified it, and ended up making it the strictest. I'm not aware of any ordinance that's stronger." Cities with similar but less severe smoking restrictions include Cambridge, Mass., and other California cities, including Walnut Creek and Tiburon.

And J&J makes nicoderm and nicorette. They J7J is almost the sole funder of the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation. RWJF is always behind everyone of these proposals at all levels of government. Oh, they have plenty of “front” groups, but if one digs enough, one will find the tentacles of RWJF.
They’re not paying off legislators as much as regulators at the state and local level (think FDA.)
I’ve never seen smoke go through a solid wall. I guess I’m just dumb.
Instead of imposing these nuisance rules and regulations, why don’t the anti-smoking zealots push for a ban on the sale and possession of tobacco?
That is a law, you can be sure, if I was unlucky enough to live there, I would not follow. lol
Catch me if you can commies :)
“It’s much easier in today’s world to just be a criminal.”
Unless you are a minority, then you have a reason for being a criminal and get housing help, food stamps, phone, etc., then you won’t do criminal acts again. /s
“A a Duplex is shaped like an ordinary house (sometimes converted from a one-family house) and so it does share walls with another tenant.”
No, proper construction is two walls, one for each tenant and insulation in the space between the two walls.
well, let’ see...
the Arabs sneak more Arabs into Gaza
they sneak assault weapons into Gaza
they sneak missiles into Gaza
they sneak even more Arabs into Gaza
they sneak bombs into Gaza
they even sneak LIONS into Gaza (how do you do that? hide them in your jock strap?)
but.. they can’t find food in Gaza for a couple little cubs?
SOLUTION — move the Arabs and their lions back to Egypt.
problem solved (at least for the future, its a shame about the little kitty kats, we just love kitty kats!)
Not happening. Because of the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement, they rely on the sale of tobacco products for their funding.
That's the problem (in addition to the name "e-cigarette"). People have been so conditioned/brainwashed that the mere sight of a cig (lit or not) sends them into coughing fits.
I've seen people start fanning their face, covering their mouth/nose when they're a full block away from a smoker.
And they(Californians) wonder WHY we DO NOT want ANY of thier “Ideas” infiltrating the other states(look what they(Californians) have done to California, Oregon, Washington State and Nevada!
That’s how they do it. Little by little until there is no freedom left.
We lived in an apartment for a while where our adjoining neighbor deliberately smoked on his back porch after I reported his barking dog (which he claimed was his "cancer-stricken" daughter's to avoid the monthly fee).
To me this sounds like a reasonable and good law, as smokers inflict their cancerous habit on non-smokers.
How many breaths of air are you allowed to take per minute and how deep?
It’s interesting how your senses change over time.
I grew up in a smoking household, and a lot of people smoked at work, at least up thru the early 2000s.
Now I’m never around smoking. If someone is smoking in a car 3 or 4 ahead of me in traffic, I notice it right away.
I’m familiar with what was around 50 years ago and that’s how you had it on those conversions. It may be different now because of codes, but there are going to be a good number which are still around from then.
As much as I loath, despise, abhor, and abominate Whoopie Goldberg, she was told she could not smoke in her million dollar condo in NYC.
She tried to fight “them” and LOST.
So she had to quit smoking.
She was SO ANGRY about it. I thought it was FUNNY! :-)
Well, let’s look at it another way. In CA, the weather is wonderful most of the year. Peeps leave windows and maybe even doors (screen doors in place) open during this fine weather. Now you have a neighborhood who smokes, and while you are sitting outside, this smelly ciggy smoke wafts over to where you are trying to enjoy the your property, but maybe wafts even into your home. I’d be PO’d as well. Since the smoker may also have their windows open, the smoke still reaches your “quiet enjoyment” space. I puff on ceegars and would not subject my neighbor to this. That said, I live on acreage so it is not a problem.
How many such restrictions will be put on legalized marijuana?
Oh wait, they just gon’ do it anyway.
TPTB are blurring the lines so that there is no difference between the two ends of the spectrum;
"Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them broken....The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens?
