Americans prefer to work for male bosses instead of female bosses, according to Gallup, whose survey also showed that at least 40% of women prefer a male boss.
In the survey, which Gallup has conducted since 1953, adults 18 and older were asked, Suppose you were taking a new job and had your choice of a boss. Would you prefer to work for a man or a woman?
The results showed that 35% prefer a male boss while only 23% prefer a female boss. Another 41% were indifferent. But both men and women prefer to work for a man.

That’s the fundamental thing. If you have a competent boss, no matter what the gender, he or she will be good.
Incompetent bosses are awful, no matter their sex.
...but I do feel that incompetent men are less obnoxious than incompetent women.
I have two terrible bosses right now, the woman is very brittle and on edge, making it very hard to deal with her. She has to prove she’s the boss, even if it means we do things that don’t make sense.
The man is more of, “I know I’ve been promoted too far, but as long as you work with me, I won’t make life too hard for you.” He knows I know what to do and gives me some latitude even if it isn’t what he wanted to do.
Hahaha, well put. Graphic, yucky but succinct!
My mother warned me about having a woman as a supervisor, and I’ve found that it’s always a good idea to listen to your mother.
Best boss I ever had in my entire life was female.
As a woman, I prefer a male boss. I never ever had a problem with them. Women feel the need to knock you down a notch when it isn’t necessary. Not all but a lot do.
Women are very difficult to work for in my experience,
If you are a woman, they cast you as a rival. It’s awful.
wifey loathed femalian bosses back in the day
women..God love em...but..
me too
she wears the britches in the family...
but I get to take them off
Men didn’t care as long as I either met my expected workload or wasn’t paid for the time I was out.
Feminists were the worst, as if I were betraying the cause by compromising working part time after having kids. Full time or no time. I couldn’t quit, because we needed the money for medical bills. I couldn’t work full time, because of different challenges each child faced.
It’s been my experience that female bosses have to work harder to prove themselves, and therefore they work their underlings harder. Also, female bosses tend to favor male employees over female ones. But I’ve had good and bad bosses of both sexes.
You're telling me....
I had two female bosses, the rest were male. I got along great with the males; as long as I did my job, there were no issues.
But the women....whew. One of them happened to be about 4'7", if I recall, and her width about equaled her height. She gave me a couple of bad evaluations which I knew were unjustified, and when I finally called her on it, the professional mask dropped and her face changed into a snarl, and she told me, "If you really want to know, I think you believe you are just too cute." !!! I was a twenty-something girl then, more likely to be intimidated, so nothing came of it, and she moved on.
The second female boss tended to purple-faced screaming tantrums which had the rest of us actually afraid she would need an ambulance. She was a bitter, status-obsessed type who once came in weeping because her friends had more money and she couldn't keep up with them. When I got engaged to the son (my husband) of a well-to-do client, she went off the deep end. I was told by those who knew that she tantrumed and screamed about the unfairness of it all.
So much for the sisterhood, LOL.
Did they include lesbians in the poll?
Yes...my wife had one lady boss she liked in her 15 years of working from 16-31 when our kids started magically appearing in her womb...
And she’s still pals with her all these years later
But her tales of working with female superiors was nasty petty stuff...just like you said....jealousy
She dealt with superior position men hitting on her all the time even after we married....but like most Dixie gals....she took it in stride as just life....better than being uglee she said
She worked up till a few days before Master Wade popped out and been a mom ever since and has never looked back
She’s a very lovely and maternal mom...the kind alpha boys can cuddle with and respect and learn to understand how girls tick from
Our boys are very lucky
My mom was very very Scarlett....much much more challenging
I have always been family or self employed...never a lady boss. ...aside from aforementioned and majority stockholder mom
But 2 of my 5 primary lenders are women executives
One of the older ones is rather protective of me frankly...I can’t complain....a fine Christian conservative lady from the Cumberlands
The younger one is hot....I always take Wifey with me there....keeps me focused..lol
I saw it, first hand, in my father in law.
He was a (mostly) conservative type. But, he said McCain should have picked a man.
He voted for Obama and now regrets it.
Not near as much as he is going to before Obama is through.
The most common answer of both men and women in the study was that they don’t have a gender-based preference.
But that apparently doesn’t make such a good story.
Also, Democrats with a preference were evenly split, it was Republicans who were more likely to favor men. And we unfortunately know from more than a few posters here that there seems to be some misogeny and resentment of women working at all among some conservative men—and women.
I will say this: a stay-at-home mother is a luxury and a sacrifice. The influence is critical until children are of an age to recognize and run from danger—some time around ages 7-9.
Yes, I had one. It made a difference.
Re: Male bosses. Men are such gossips, but women betray.
You sound like someone who would freely resent a female boss because of her gender.
I sound like someone who’s been betrayed more than once.
