The police can’t distinguish a TV remote from a gun, or an old deaf man from someone who won’t obey an order, or a mad dog from a friendly dog.
And there’s no recourse when they choose the wrong one.
Too many dogs are being shot by police, but owners have some responsibility to keep their pets from the near occasion of doing harm. The story says the cops knocked and the dog ran toward them and jumped. The clear implication is both cops and dog were outside the home. That’s the owner’s responsibility. If the dog is allowed free rein then there are potential consequences and this is one of them. The owner has also carefully couched the story to make it appear to a quick peruser that it was a 14 week old puppy that was killed. No description is given of the size of the dog. The dog may in fact have been defending her puppy, in which case the owner is doubly responsible for leaving her in a location where she could interact with strangers.
I caught a small factual error in that statement. It should have read "Police said they shot the dog because they felt like it."
Do you have a database to indicate just how many dogs actually bite uLEO’s during the course of a typical year? Must be HUGE because they certainly are taking no chances. At least they are getting home safely.
Cops are doing everything they can to give themselves a bad reputation.
Even the idiots in Hollywood know that you avoid harming the dog if at all possible.
My friend's pit lab mix is the sweetest thing in the world.
In before the Jackboot Lickers defending this wacked out cop.
Drug test Cops for Steroids now.
Fracking cops. Bullies who are too stupid to do anything worthwhile. I have nothing but contempt for them.
