For EXTRA CREDIT,
what movie hero best describes TED CRUZ?
Ted Cruz Ping!
If you want on/off this ping list, please let me know.
Please beware, this is a high-volume ping list!
...and ZINGING him with obviously prepared "gotcha" statements, and clearly leftist talking points. From the FULL TRANSCRIPT now posted on The Lonely Conservative:
Jay: Let me ask you something. Let me ask you something. If I was a strategist for your side and I didnt think Obamacare was going to work,
I would have sat back and said, "you know something, lets not shut down the government.Lets see what happens.'
See, I think instead of a lot of people do not like the government shutdown.
I mean, when Newt Gingrich was here, well he said "this is a game." Well, its not a game. People lose their jobs.
But, if they had just not shut it down, whats happening with Obamacare would still have happened.
And rather than having people vilify you for shutting down the government,
it might have been seen in a different light.Do you think...
Cruz: Listen, Jay, Im one of the many people who was not a fan of shutting down the government.
Throughout this whole thing, I said...
Jay: You looked like a big fan from where I was standing!
Cruz: And the reason we had a government shutdown is President Obama the Democrats said,
"we will not negotiate, and we will not compromise."You know, its striking now...
Jay: But heres my thing.
You dont negotiate or compromise because A) John Roberts Republican, pretty much said this is the law.Obamacare is the law of the land.
Lets move on. Isnt that true?Cruz: The Supreme Court upheld the constitutional challenge.
But it isnt working.
3.5 million people across this country have gotten cancelation notices...Jay: I know, but social security took seven years before anybody got the first check.
Roosevelt said, were gonna put social security it was seven years before anybody got anything.
Jay: Let me ask about gun control. Why is increased or better background checks not a good thing?
You voted against this. Why is that why is keeping the mentally unstable, those type of people
not saying you cant have guns, you just have to pass a background check. Why is that bad?
Cruz: Look, I support background checks.
In fact, when we had the battle over gun control, I was very proud to work with Senator Chuck Grassley
on the law enforcement alternative. There are two different philosophies.Do you target violent criminals, or do you try to
take away the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens?Jay: Well, no, you always target violent criminals, obviously,
but the fact that a complete psychopath can go to a gun show and buy half a dozen guns and now,
hasnt your new bill made it easier to go across state lines with guns?
...but it did seem very "out of character" for Jay to be constantly INTERRUPTING Senator Cruz...See also THIS wonderful analysis, from pjmedia.com:...and ZINGING him with obviously prepared "gotcha" statements, and clearly leftist talking points.
Compare and Contrast: Leno Interviewing Obama and Cruz
Does Jay have a double standard? On Friday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz made his first appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Leno, allegedly in his last season as host of the Tonight Show, has not been known as a particularly partisan entertainer,
so it was surprising to see him go "Candy Crowley" on Ted Cruz...-- snip --
...Some on Twitter compared Leno to a prosecuting attorney as he interrupted Cruz and accused him
of everything from shutting down the government to wanting violent psychopaths to have guns.Cruz, for his part, used the appearance to his advantage, clearly understanding both the venue and the audience.
Although Cruz is certainly more than capable of holding his own in a debate with Leno,
he chose mostly to keep his powder dry, defying the media-generated image of him as a hostile aggressor.
He was relaxed and laid back, despite the tough questioning. It seemed to go over well with the audience, which erupted into cheers after several of Cruzs points.
Its interesting to go back and watch Lenos interview with President Obama from this past August, and
compare the questions and tone with Lenos interview with Cruz last night...CLICK HERE for more of this LONG, but EXCELLENT article
I hope Cruz doesn’t feel the need to go on more shows like that one. Doesn’t need the liberal ambushes, never helps anything.
Its interesting to go back and watch Lenos interview with President Obama from this past August, andHere's MORE from EXCELLENT ANALYSIS posted pjmedia.com:
compare the questions and tone with Lenos interview with Cruz last night...
...The most obviously noticeable difference is how often Leno interrupts Cruz compared to Obama.Leno lets the president finish nearly every answer.
Even when Obama lapses into "um...uh...uh..." Leno patiently waits for Obama to continue.
-- snip --
From the very first question, you can see the difference in tone between the two interviews.
Leno to Obama:
Happy Birthday! How did you celebrate? What did you do?Leno to Cruz:- [responding to Obama's basketball comment] Youre pretty competitive, so...
Ive seen Michelle tease you about your gray hair youve got a bit of silver in your hair do you tease back?
Ive been reading a lot about you lately and they describe you as aggressive, arrogant, and abrasive. Accurate?Leno tosses the president a few softball questions to relax him and create a friendly atmosphere.- Any one of those? Can you believe any one of those?
What three adjectives would you use to describe...
With Cruz, he goes straight to the "everyone pretty much agrees that youre a jerk. Why do you think that is?" question...
I hope Cruz doesnt feel the need to go on more shows like that one.First, I agree with Andrew Breitbart that "Politics is downstream from culture,"Doesnt need the liberal ambushes, never helps anything.
Second, I do not think that Senator Cruz expected such hostile treatment from Jay Leno.
He will not make THAT mistake again. It seemed like Jay was acting (uncharacteristically) like a Charlie Gibson/Katie Couric wanna-be,
Ideally, though, I want a metaphor that allows Jay Leno to save face.
I agree. Ted did do well, considering. Ted (and ALL conservatives) need to handle Leno/lib media like Sarah handled Matt Lauer, this morning. She wasn't having ANY of Matt's nonsensical questions/insinuations and Matt left the set limping, no doubt.
Senator Cruz did terrific on the Tonight Show. He stuck to his conservative message, which is a winning one. The audience also seemed to be behind Ted for the most part, which is a very encouraging sign. Cruz needs to keep taking his message directly to the American people in ways like this. I also like how he remains calm and unflappable, with no change in his demeanor. It is important to remain likable if you want to lead people, and Senator Cruz understands this.
Notice the “cue card” on Leno’s desk? Does he usually have it there or was it from some other bit?
I’ve never seen him use a talking points “prop” like that.
Yes, Leno does use a card with questions or info on it at other times. He always “knows” the guest’s latest album or movie. But he NEVER rips into guests like this. In fact, the second Leno felt Cruz was coming to the end of a sentence, he sought out that card to hit him again like a prizefighter. Never.
Definitely out of character for Jay, and he didn’t seem to be enjoying it. It wasn’t like Rush finally getting to interview Harry Reid, for example. Leno looked put up to it and under the gun. But he was a good little soldier, managing to remain unpleasantly hostile throughout.
Mavis Leno is sick. Maybe she couldn’t have children and just took the side of, if I can’t have them, I’ll fight against them. That is just sick, thinking that abortion helps women. There is not one woman abortion has helped.
Half the people aborted are girls. Women were respected as mothers, pregnant women have been revered for centuries, nay, millennia. Now, to some, including Mavis, women are thought of as hos and bitches, repositories for semen, with no responsibility. A new life beginning inside you? Don’t consider it a human; use it and abuse it like slaveowners did slaves. Thanks, Mavis.
Jay was told, possibly by wifey: “FINISH HIM. Help the American people see that this hideous Christian tea party monster is evil. Don’t even make us have to contend with him ever again.” And possibly, “actually, Cruz’s career started to go downhill the moment he appeared on the Jay Leno show...” And also, at any cocktail party Jay has attended since the show, he has been revered and feted like an Adonis stud. And all chubby Jay had to do was to keep hitting sen. Cruz with the questions on a card.
Re Leno to Obama vs Cruz. Seriously. It was, “mr president, can I get you a pillow?” Vs “you are an abrasive, arrogant son of a btch.”
Ideally, though, I want a metaphor that allows Jay Leno to save face. - RonDogBecause I like the guy, even though he skews left. :)

WHY? - DefeatCorruption
Because he was nice to Sarah Palin, and Ann Coulter - among others.
Because he has been BLASTING Obama recently in his monologs, and
Because he still has a LOT of people who watch his show every night.
From marquee.blogs.cnn.com:
Leno's 'Tonight Show' takes top spot in ratings
March 2nd, 2010Love him or hate him, people are still watching Jay Leno.-- snip --
Leno's first night back, which featured actor and musician Jamie Foxx as well as Olympic gold medal skier Lindsey Vonn,
ranked No. 1 among major networks in his time slot, according to Nielsen Media Research.Leno had 6.6 million total viewers in what Nielsen calls the "fast national" (that is, preliminary) ratings,
in comparison to the 3.8 million who tuned in to David Letterman's "Late Show"
and the 4.1 million who were watching "Nightline" on ABC.Leno had a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49, in contrast to
David Letterman's rating of 1.1 in the same demographic.Leno's first night back behind the "Tonight Show" desk had a positive effect for Jimmy Fallon as well.
The host of "Late Night" came in at 2.1 million viewers,
beating out "Late Late Show" host Craig Ferguson, who had 1.8 million viewers.
But he NEVER rips into guests like this. - YaelleThat's what I thought.Definitely out of character for Jay, and he didnt seem to be enjoying it.
It's almost as if he had been assimilated by the BORG! :)
Leno has probably always been a Hollyweird lefty
